Hello everyone,

I just ran across this forum and it looks terrific.

I just signed up with dishnetwork and got two receivers.

A 722 and a 622 and love them both. I have some questions however.

1) I noticied that on the 622 there is two satelite IN'S and that the installer hooked up cables to both of them. Why? I remember at my folks place they just had one cable coming in. What would happen if I unplug one of the cables? Do both need to be plugged in to receive programming?

2) I hooked up the 722 in the living room and the 622 in the bedroom but now the wife wants the 722 in the bedroom . Can this be done by me or does an installer have to do it? Sorry, I am a bit dumb when it comes to these things.

Also do I have to call dish when I switch the receivers?

3) Why dont these receivers have cards? Is dish moving away from cards?

Thanks guys, I am happy to have found such knowledgable community.

The cards are built in. Both the 722 and 622 are dual tuner receivers, so yes, there should be cables running into both inputs. There should be two cables running into the 722, also. Do you have one cable running into a DPPlus separator and then two cables out of the separator into the receiver? That would be the correct method.

I don't know why the wife would want to switch them out, but hey, gotta keep the wife happy. You can move them yourself. I have moved my receivers several times.

1) Each DVR has 2 receivers. To record 2 programs at once, both inputs need to be plugged in.

2) As long as you feel comfortable keeping track of which cable plugs in where, you should have no problems swapping the 622 and 722. I did the same thing. No reason to call Dish as long as both receivers have a telephone or broadband connection to call out to Dish.

3) The card is internal to the DVR. There is a slot to add a replacement card at a later time in the front left side of the DVRs.

Thanks for the response.

Yeah, there is a separator.

Do I have to do a reset or anything after switching or should they just automaticaqlly work?

And also, since the cables are just to record two programs at once, if I remove one of the cables, I would still receive programing but I wouldnt be able to record two programs at once is that right?

They should automatically work. They'll automatically do a signal acquisition when they are plugged in and turned on. Just unplug them at the cable that runs into the separator (leaving it attached) and switch them out.

for what reason would you have to unplug one of the cables?

If in dual mode, tv2 would have no tv. If in single user mode, pip won't work. You are looking at having problems trying to use with one connection. Once in a while when I lose a sat that tv2 is on, error message shows on tv1 as a warning. I would think it would irritate you if left like that continuously.

Agrred with everyone. Leave them connected. They are there for a reason. Plus necessary when you want to record multiple shows at the same time.

Okay guys, I just did the switch. Now the 622 is having issues. I did the simple plug and play and it does the searching for satellite and transponder. Some of the channels dont work, specifically all the HD.

When I get to some channels, it begins doing a searching for satellite and goes through differen transponders and stays at 0 of 5. It did go through one satellite, I think 110, and got through 5 of 5. Just others it wouldnt complete and gives me that message that says signal is weak and could not find satellite.

Any ideas whats going on?

It still is not working as of today.

if you hooked them back up exactly how you unhooked the previous, there is no reason for the issues you are seeing. It almost sounds like you may have a splitter or something blocking part of the signal.

Cabeling

strange problem
