Use this thread to report your results asking for FREE HD ACCESS for existing customers.

Dish is now offering free HD to all customers, and DirecTV is offering free HD for new customers.
Some users elsewhere report getting Free HD Access for TWO years, but not lifetime.

Obviously charges for HD could be history come two years from now, so this is a success for anyone that gets it.

I called and was told they couldn't do the HD Access credit because I have a free DVR service credit that goes until Jan 2011. She told me to call back in Jan. She said the system won't do both and she can't remove the current credit.

On a seperate question (same call) I got free Cinemax for 3 months (because I sub to HBO) and $5 off Starz for 6 months.

I called and was offered it for life but I needed to do auto bill pay and I don't like doing that so I said no thanks but I got Cinemax for free for three months.

Cinemax free for 3 is a duo offer and they are supposed to push those ....

5 off starz for 6 months is a one of our make the customer happy deals.

Right the our system does not allow dvr and hd fees to be waived. ( there always exceptions but as a general rule only retentions can offer both )

Thanks for that feedback. Certainely understandable, I didn't push the issue. If the HD Access charges still exists in Feb 2011 when they increase prices again then I'll call back like the rep suggested. As time passess and more competitors give it free, the likihood that the charge disappears all together increases.

Called in about it... the rep said I could get the $10 credit for the 2 year life of contract if I signed up for autopay online, then called back. For some reason, they couldn't activate autopay for me via phone. Was an older gal I was talking to who seemed a little confused, but I think was just finding out about this. So here goes autopay! Will let ya know what happens. :)

I called up today to add a HR24 to my account. I asked the rep about the "Free HD Lifetime" offer to new customers with autopay. I asked him what they were doing for current customers (take me for example) I told him that by adding this HR24 to my account, I was like a "new" customer. He told me that they are working on a permanent solution but for now, if you add another receiver, they will give you (me) a $10.00 credit each month for 24 months. As of now, in 24 months I would have to update another HD receiver either by adding one or replacing a standard receiver.

As I said, Dave is aware of the situation & are trying to come up with something. The rep explained to me that on my billing statement I would be charged the $10.00 HD fee but there would be a -$10.00 credit on the bill so it will be a "wash".

Hope this helps.

Well, that was rather simple! $10 credit is already applied for this month, and should be there for the next 23 months! :)

Just got off the phone with DirecTV. The girl I talked to said I have to wait til the end of the month to get on the free HD for 2 years since I have a line code for free HD Access already which was for the past 12 months and is falling off later this month. She apparently can't add it on until that falls off.

I would have to change my package from Total Choice Plus to Choice Xtra which is about $2.50 additional every month but the $10 saved for HD Access will surely cover that. Bottom line is I'll be saving about $7.50 every month for the next 2 years. I would also have to sign up for auto bill pay.

She also confirmed that there is no contract extension for getting in on the offer and that while the "free HD for life" offer for new customers expires, there is currently no expiration for current customers to call and get "free HD for 2 years" offer.

I guess I'll be calling back in a month to take the offer. She said she noted everything that we discussed on the phone so, wish me luck.

On a side note, is there any reason I shouldn't make the switch to Choice Xtra from Total
Choice Plus?

I will probably call and do this for auto pay, but it needs to be a few months. I just signed up so my first few months I know will be higher until the referral credit and etc are applied. I want to know what I will be billed, not have it change every month.

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

You said the "Free HD for LIFE" has and EXPIRATION ... how can that be, then it's not Free for LIFE if it expires :D

And you said :
No expiration for Free HD for 2 years (for current subs) , doesn't it EXPIRE in 2 years ? :D

Per the PDF, new customers can only get "Free HD for Life" in a limited window - when the window closes, those new customers who qualified will still have it (as a lifelong credit), but any new customers after that date can't get in on the deal. That's what it says.

As to how existing customers can call and ask for free HD after the new customer offer expires, that baffles me ...

They are offering existing customers free HD for 2 years with autopay and paperless billing. I just called them, asked for free HD, and they gave it too me.

$10 less on my bill for the next 2 years.

Q. Does this eliminate you from ANY other discounts over the 2 year period ?

Looks like there are 3 requirements. (1)-Not currently getting free HD service, (2)- Must sign up for auto pay, (3)- Must have a minimum Choice Extra Package

Got mine with no problem plus a few other extras throw in like Sunday ticket with HD at a good price
