Formatting Seagate Golfex External Hard Drive

Hello guys. I just got a 3 TB Seagate Goflex external hard drive and when i connected it, it showed the reformat screen(865 on top right on screen), then to reconfirm that its about to be reformatted (867) and then it says the device format failed ( 871 error ) ??

I have attached the drive which has external power supply to both usb ports back and front on the DVR and restarted the drive multiple time without being able to reformat it by DVR.

And yes i called Dish too and they asked me to restart the DVR and I did that too...without any success......

I have invested good bit on this external hard drive....but it does not seem to be working with Dish...works perfectly good with my PC.

Can you please give your 2 cents ?

I don't believe a 3TB drive is supported yet on any dish receiver. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

You're not. 2TB is the max for HD DVR receivers, and (officially) 1TB is the max for the 211/211k/411

Welcome to SatelliteGuys, if you cannot return it, try a disc partition program, I ran into this same problem with my Popcorn Hour and with it I repartitioned the drive into 2 equal partitions... try this if non returnable.

thanks guys. I had not idea about it. Will try partitions 1.5 TB each drive ? can you suggest ways to do the same. i dont think i can get return it.

I found a program called Easeus that let me do it, it took awhile(I had the drive about half full) over a day...

Hello and thanks for that. I did download that software and partitioned my drive into 1.4tb each was unable to format by DIsh dvr then into 800gb and 2.2 TB and hide the larger one so smaller one could be seen but dish dvr could still not format it....it always says "the device format failed " error 871.

Any suggestions welcomed.....am at dead end now ? drives were created in NTFS format..
