Yes, this is pretty much what Im getting at here.. I sure wish my Charter Cable system would just get off their dead asses and add my RSN in HD, because I am ready to be completely done with these downrezzing/bitstarving crooks..

And I imagine you will next try and tell us cable has superior hd too. Dreamer.

Yeah, by your comments you seem like you must really know your stuff... Why dont you enlighten us at to how DBS is so much better than cable when it comes to HD PQ..

Better yet, why dont you fill us all in on the inner workings of my particular cable provider, Charter of West Michigan..

We'll all be waiting with great anticipation :)

It will have less content than the SD channel, as only a subset of those shows are being recorded in HD.

As to HD-lite, well, this seems like an excellent candidate for down-rezzing to me. It isn't like there are going to be any special effects or lots of fast motion video. Unless you want razor sharp images as they chop a piece of celery.

I mean, if I had a choice of what to watch in true HD of "The Lord of the Rings" vs NFL HD football vs a show on cooking pasta, I'm not taking the pasta show.

The Charter of SE Wisconsin has good HD. All 7 channels of it are pretty good.

Of course I would gladly give up 5-8 of my Dish HD channels if the rest could be improved.

So I tuned in for one minute, after writing the above, to check out the PQ (it was safe as my wife was out of the house) and in that one minute, I twice saw people chopping celery.

I also saw a little bit of blocking on quick zooms and a camera pan. Don't know if that is due to compression from FOOD HD, from the cameras, or from E*.

I find it amazing that neither Emeril Live NOR the Rachel shows appear to be on the new Food HD. Plus no Iron chef america. I am not complaining, but merely surprised. I would have thought they would have wanted these shows on the network. I'm not in marketing, but it would seem a no-brainer. Maybe there were contractual issues with those shows.

BUT... the PQ looked great when I watched for a bit this evening. Its a nice addition. I know many don't like the PQ of many of the channels, but Dish now has 30 HD channels. NOT BAD! :hungry: :hungry: :hungry:

HDNMV is 1440x1080

HGHD and FOOD HD are 1920x1080?

Unreal!

This should yield some very nice still images of fruit bowls.

Tom,
Yes - but on the uplink report they noticed they're only allocated 11 mb to Food HD on 61.5 - and I can confirm, the pic is MUCH softer than HG HD. More grainy. Grrrr...

I saw Giada's show....She looks great in HD! :)

I am a D* subscriber, but the only reason I even watch the Food Channel is because of Giada! She is a babe! And because my wife and I like Italian food, we dig the meals she makes too! :D

I am jealouse you E* subscribers have Food Network HD! :)

Hmm ?

I watched an hour of FoodHD last night from 6-7pm EDT. I found the PQ to be excellent on my SXRD and close to HGTV. The only problem that I see is that the Food channel is "oversaturating" the colors  . They could back this down a bit which would improve the pic detail. Gerry

Given the blocking you see on fast camera moves, doesn't this prove that HD-LITE is not the problem but low bitrates.
A picture can look phenomenal with HD-LITE and High Bitrates and look like crap with HD Resolution and Low Bitrates.
I think all the attention paid to HD-LITE is misdirected; instead we should wage a war against low bitrates.

Well, I certainly want max rez on closeups of the finished product. Especially some of the more intricate desserts. So a lower bit rate may not be too bad, considering the lack of fast action ( for the most part ). I'd like perfection, but if they have to cut somewhere, Food HD can take some of the cuts.

I also watched on my SXRD and was very happy with the PQ (although watching a guy grill dead squid was not my cup of tea) :D

Oh, don't get me wrong, the picture was nice, but flip back and forth b/t Food and HGHD and you'll see the difference.
