You got it. Watched some Barefoot Contessa last night - every time a quick movement, BLURRY. It has to the worst quality of any HD channel in the lineup.

Yep, a blurrfest...With a ton of pixelation/macroblocking during fast transitions and even slight movements..

Pretty sad to see that E* is now clearly heading down the same path as D*...

I had to chime in here; at least on 61.5, the blocking on fast motion even has ME disgusted (and I'll basically tolerate almost ANY level of HD). The graininess and saturation varies from show to show: the Barefoot Contessa and some of the BBQ shows are kind of poor but some others (e.g. Chiarello) are quite crisp and up to the standards of HGTV-HD. It's just the motion (who knew on a Food Channel) that is driving me up the wall.

On top of that, every time they show an HD close up of a slab of BBQ meat (as long as its not moving) my mouth starts watering and I head for the nearest steak house. Screwed either way. :)

Ditto here...impossible to watch.

We were really excited to get the channel but with all the macroblocking it sucks to watch.

Sorry if this is a stupid question...

What channel is it on, and can I see it on a 921? Do I need to order additional HD packages?

I thought it would be like NFL Network and just pop up one day, but I dont see it in the list.

TIA!

you need dish hd bronze or better.

you're not gonna get any new hd channels with a 921

It's not on yet. Dish says they haven't completed negotiations yet -- but it is already uploaded on 9468.

Chances are it will be in the Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum packages and in MPEG4.

I have seen the future of HD on dish and it is... well it sucks basically!

If Food Network HD is any indication, and I believe that it is, HD is heading down the same path as SD on satellite. I like having lots of channels as much as the next guy but I would much rather have quality over quantity. My lease still has a while to go (about a year, I have a 622) so I should have a good indication by then as to which path they are going to choose but I predict that I will be dropping Dish.

On a positive note, I noticed that I've lost 10 pounds since being force fed a diet of DishHD-Lite.

Seriously, those who care about HD are very concerned and highly disappointed at recent industry trends. Unfortunately the "Great Unwashed", along with all the HD-Lite Defenders and Apologists alike, consider HD-Lite to be good enough for everyone. As a society, we are getting dumber, fatter, lazier, and we're losing our eye sight too!:(

To be fair, I think a lot has to do with the TYPE of HD-Lite. Speaking for myself, I think the Voom channels (in particular Worldsport) are quite good. However, the "swimming" on Starz-HD/HD Locals and the motion blocking on FoodHD and some others (including my HD locals) makes me wince when I watch.

Perhaps you're saying that our tolerance of one has led to the other, I don't know. But E* and D* won't care as long as they have subscribers; when those subscribers have alternatives, THEN they may do something about it.

To be honest, I have really enjoyed my DishHD experience - they deliver the most HD bang for the buck on the market. All channels look great on my 30" CRT HDTV, most channels look really good on my other two HDTVs, but more and more channels now look "less than stellar" and some of the HD-Lite channels look downright awful. And the MPEG-4 HD-LIL and StarzHD aren't even good enough to be bad-->they are downright horrible. For example, it has been five (5) months since the Washington DC HD LIL were turned on, and they still look like garbage: http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=64857&highlight=washington

As for VOOM, I had recorded a few events on MonstersHD (like Bubba Ho-Tep) on my 942 while they were still at 1920x1080i and again after they were downrezzed to 1280x1080i. The difference between the two recordings was like the difference between night and day: one is a pretty picture, and the other is like being immersed into the picture...a real HD experience.

While we certainly do our share of complaining (guilty), I agree that nothing is going to happen until E* and D* are hit in the pocketbook. Unless we're ready to cancel service, the days of HD-Lite have just begun.

Well they will fix the issue but it will take time and money on their part.. Things just dont happen overnight and for now atleast we are getting something which is better than nothing..

I think that's a favorite of blackhitachi also. We'll show up at your place this weekend. I'll bring the chips... ;)

You might try my favorite, Fighting Cock. 103 proof. I'm doomed.

625 vs 510 - New guy question

Any status on Dish 1000.2?
