Why would Dish Network not add NBR to the 921, 721, 501, 508, 510 DVR's to get customers on the leased 522's and newer hardware if it is just going to cost them more money and especially for the fact that they would just have to be replaced once again with MPEG-4 receivers. Maybe this is why existing customers are not being allowed to get the 522 receivers, because they want to have more money tied up in upgrades until it comes time for the MPEG-4 rollout of the DVR's so that they will not have to pay twice for an upgrade.

JL...why do you get so upset about people complaining? Isn't what this forum is here for? I chose Dish. I have Dish. I'm upset with Dish. I'll complain about it and I'll switch when I am DAMN WELL READY TO!!!! I wish folks like you and NIPPJAS would quit with the POMPOM waving. People are upset and they have a right to be.

Some times it is not possible to get a feature to work. They were working on it, and so far have not succeeded. So instead of offering NBR on 522s and future receivers where it *will* work should they just not offer NBR? The choice to go ahead with what they could when they could.
Then they shouldn't make empty promises that they don't intend to keep. If they would have said "We are working on trying to get it to work" then we wouldn't have an issue. But when you say it's coming, it makes it a whole different ballgame.

Hey Dish, give us an honest reason WHY it won't work, not just that it isn't going to come.

When a public company makes statements they can be held accountable by the SEC, FTC, ICC, FCC and DOJ units of the US government. As individuals or as a group(s) of subs our voices unfortunately do not seem to have real power to push Dish. Charlie/E* has made promises in the past which have not been kept. We all hve examples of these, in the past have noted a) Uprade the 6000 and receive all future HD channels b) NBR c) "Dishwire" on the 921 among others. Many people purchased or signed lease deals base at least in part on Dish promises.

IMO as many subs as possible should be contacting these governmental agencies with the long list of Dish broken promises (lies?). We pay for the government and part of their job is to protect consumers from these practices. But iit is up to us to push the agencies in to help us and stop Dish from making promises they do not keep.

I said this before, if not for Scott and other key players on this forum we would be in the dark, and I would gone to Costco to get a $ 489 - 921 to replace one of my TiVos which of course has NBR, a major feature my wife loves. G-D would I have been in big trouble. Scott I owe you.

Justalurker,

Do you like it when a football game runs over-time and you miss recording your favorite show ? Do you like having to check the scedule every week to see if the time slot on your shows has changed ? Do you like the fact that after all the time that Dish has had to work on this box that it still has major bugs ?

I've seen people complain on this forum about the most petty issues, but I think not having NBR on this $1000 unit when we were told that it would, and when Tivo users have had it for years, IS a "Big whoop".

2) The 522 is their latest DVR, and the software is still in the bug-fix stage. It'll be the easiest to intergrate.
The 522 came out in 11/03, the 921 came out 12/03. In addition to being in the bug-fix stage, the 921 is also still in the bug-creation phase  . I would suspect NBR to be easier to implement on the 921 since it doesn't have the dual mode and the user assigning which tuner to use.

Justalurker, if you have a copy of that chat I would love a copy and so would a number of lawyers who have contacted me about this entire mess. :D
I have most chats for the past couple of years. Skimming through that one seemed to show mostly the Viacom issue. The Chat Summary at the other site doesn't quote any promises. Got a better month?

Are you a mind reader? How do you KNOW they did not intend to release NBR on older receivers? IIRC they said that they were working on NBR and planned to release it - no promise.

Name Based Recording alone WILL NOT fix this issue. E* will have to fix the EPG first, and have the EPG accurately track the actual program times when there is a delay. What good will NBR do for this issue if the EPG doesn't follow delayed shows?

The trick of finding favorite shows that bounce around the schedule is good. But the EPG is the key. It needs to be correct!

Scott: NBR isn't the biggest issue on the 921.

Folks - It is nice that NBR is coming to someone, isn't it? Or is it so bad that NBR isn't coming to YOU that nobody else matters? Perspective.

How does somebody else getting NBR satisfy my needs? Nobody else matters to me...unless they want to trade their 522 for one of my 721s....

If you don't like it, leave. Goodbye. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Paypal me $900.00 and give me your shipping address. I'll send you:
(2) 721s
(1) 508
(1) 510
(2) 301's
(2) DP34 switches.

Justalurker,

No one else seems to have the same opinion as you ie. that no NBR is no "Big whoop" . It is a "Big whoop" to just about everyone that owns a 921 EXCEPT you .

And as to your last comment: "Folks - It is nice that NBR is coming to someone, isn't it? Or is it so bad that NBR isn't coming to YOU that nobody else matters? Perspective."

I also have 3 522's which will soon have NBR. The shortcomings of my 921 WITHOUT NBR which cost me more than all of my 522's combined will become even more glaring.

All of your comments are sounding more and more troll-like, I think you should consider changing your name to "Justatroll" .

I even found a new avatar for you: :)

I didn't even join this thread until post 98 of this hate fest. If you are looking for trolls, look no further than the non-E* subscribers egging you on. :D

That is an excellent summary of the majority viewpoint.

Well it appears all of these comments have upset the folks at Dish Network, I have had a few Dish Network emplyees upset at me for rocking the boat.

I am VERY happy about this. This shows that we are being heard! Some have told me a few may lose their jobs because of this. My advice for those getting the boot is to not let the door hit them on the ass on the way out.

If we work together as one we can make a difference!

Why should Dish Network customers get screwed? This is NOT just about 921 owners. Dish Network has NO integrity whatsoever. It is them who announce equipment with all these features only to release the units with the features not available. They are the ones who have been stringing people along with false hope and promises which never amount to anything.

Let's work together folks. Using our voices together we can make a difference.

Couldn't agree with you more Scott!!
If they don't want the boat to rock, try keeping a couple of your promises for a change.
There are times where the best business sense isn't the best course of action.
You may know that you have to replace all of these dvr receivers in the next 2 yrs anyway due to mpeg4 (an example) so you don't want to invest the time and money for a dead dvr, but if you take that time, you show great care about your EXISTING customers. They are the ones who ercommend Dish to their friends and family.
My dad is thinking about going to sat from cable. He asked me who he should go with, DirectTV or Dish - I told him wait until I see what is going on with NBR/EBR. Well let me see, what do I tell him - its has to be - GO WITH DIRECTTV.
At this point it doesn't even matter that the 522 will have it and he would qualify to get one.
I will NOT recommend a company that doesn't give a crap about their customers. And that's how I view this. Same thing with firewire on the 921 (which I was looking to get until that fiasco), same thing on the price scam they pulled on folks here. Don't care what they say, to offer a SPECIAL price to the folks here - sell some units, then offer it again here at the same (higher) priceall the while knowing that they wer going to cut the price of the unit by almost 50%for everyone thereafter is utter BULL****.

Rant done

If they are going to dump the 921 (and 721) ie. just provide the minimum support possible because they want to apply their efforts ($$$) towards the newer 522 & 942 platforms, they should at least offer an even swap for the 942 . And at the very least, they should make an official announcement about the whole issue . Instead they want to unload as many of these boxes as possible which they spent plenty of money on to design and manufacture .

BTW, I bet that as Scott says, people may be fired, it's not because they screwed up the 921, it's because they leaked information to us, the customers !
