I think I have the hardware setup correctly now. As I am new to this I can use some help in getting the software setup. I have new equipment for FTA: Winegard 31' dish with an Invacom quad L/C LNB. I am using L only at present with no switch. My receiver is a VS2000 Xtreme. It scans for sats.

My location is zip 95667 in California at a latitude of 39 degrees N. Longitude is 120 degrees W.

How do I find my south, most east and most west satellites and install their locations in the receiver?

I also have a satellite finder that measures signal strength. Should I use it? Or once I get the rough settings in does the internal scan will do the rest?

Thanks for the help.

First, do you have a motor, or is the dish stationary? Motors do not work well with the Viewsat receivers.

Your closest to true south satellite would be Echo 9/G23 at 121w (Or Echo 7 at 119w, a circular bird). From the calculator at http://sadoun.com/Sat/Installation/Satellite-Heading-Calculator.htm, you should be able to see all North American satellites listed at www.lyngsat.com/america.html. Of course, remember that you will only be able to receive Ku band satellites/transponders (5 digit frequency number) and beams that are directed at North America. Check the satellites footprint.
