FCC to Vote Thursday to Allow Voice Calls on Planes

I bet they will vote yes. Why have unneeded outdated regulations? It should not be decided by regulations, since it has been proven not to have an effect on ground towers. Either the companies involved decide or a law is passed.

From what I have read, this isn't what people think. You can't just start talking on your phone, from a technical standpoint. There will be no signal. It has to be from a service the airline provides along with the phone carriers, and you know that will be at a cost. In fact from $2 to $4 a minute. So not everyone will start paying those fees and talk very long. I know OnAir was the company used on a transatlantic flight I recently took.

Exactly it will cost a lot of money to use the cell phone, so very few will use it. Certainly not to just idly chat, it is like those old airphones that they used to have in the back of the seat in front of you. I never saw anyone use one. It is not going to be free cell phone service to just call someone up and chat.
