Favre reinstated!

What a circus,

Family night was on TV last night, not much else on, so I tune in to the "pre" game stuff,

Our local affiliate is officially off the deep end, They actually put a graphic of Flight-Aware on screen tracking Favres flight, then a helicopter shot of his plane landing, then the same helicopter following the motorcade through town. Police escort and all.

I watched Oceans 11 instead, I'm so tired of this farce and it's only the first week of camp.

This is a situation where the team and player can take some blame. Favre should have had earlier discussion and the team looked like it tried to call his bluff which we see what the end result is. Should be an intresting training camp.

yeah that was pretty lame.

Also they said he had a police escort to "help control the media" yet they had pictures and video galore including him pulling into his house.

If you want to retire...then retire. Don't be like Ric Flair or Terry Funk and retire 100 times from wrestling

I could understand if Brett had a change of heart and wanted to come back but the Packers asked him twice, twice if he was going to stay retired and he said yes. Now, everything from that point on, Favre has handled poorly. I don't even want to list what he did wrong because I think people are sick of hearing about it. I mean, come on, Brett, show a little loyalty to the team THAT MADE YOU A STAR!!

As for your point about Flair and Funk, I think this is Flair's only retirement, although that could change. I wish he stays retired and doesn't tarnish his legacy. Let's say he goes somewhere and has one more match. That to me overshadows everything that happened during WrestleMania weekend and on Raw that Monday night. As far as Funk goes, I think he's retired 5 times and I think he's still wrestling!!!

I don't get some of you guys....IF he wants to unretire....so be it. He made his decision early and he changed his mind.....so what? The ones that have tried to be 2 steps ahead is the organization and they have failed miserably! There is no doubt that the team does NOT have to accomodate Brett...but guess what, neither does he. They should have just released him....but guess what, they wanted to make it THEIR worth while....and they screwed THAT up because they were asking too much. Favre has a contract he is under and since it is HIS obligation UNDER CONTRACT to show up to camp....he is doing it BY THE BOOK.
Amazing how much you guy bitch about players that don't follow rules or play by the book....and Brett shows up....and you guys wanna make him the bad guy. This is Trent Green, Dante Culpepper all over again.....

I agree. Man this is scarey. Just let the man play. And if you don't want him to play then let him go. SHow some class. Favre has earned it.

here's the problem i have with brett. he's held the packers emotional hostage for like 3 to 4 years with his....will he or won't he retire. no team can prepare for the future. when he announced his retirement in march, the team decided it was wise to move on. then brett started waffling.

a few weeks ago, tony dungy (a coach i greatly admire) was asked what he would do if peyton manning did the same thing. dungy said, exactly what the packers did.....prepare for the future. he was very adamant about it.

brett's gonna be 39 next month. he might (i repeat might) have one more good season left in him. no guarantees. he should retire while he's on top....not when he becomes an embarassment. so, that's my problem with favre!!

And yet you don't thin Brett does not deserve to change his mind?? He has done MORE for the Packers than ANY other player in the last 20 or 30 years! He changed his mind....like if NO ONE ELSE has ever done that.....

Let me ask the question nobody is asking - Why don't the Packers want Favre? Didn't this guy just have one of his best seasons?

Good question Paul. With Favre, the Packers were only 1 game away from the Super Bowl last year. Isn't every teams goal each year to win the Super Bowl? What makes them think that an unproven commodity in Aaron Rogers would give them a better shot at accomplishing that goal than having Favre under center?

This is the most annoying sports story in a long, long time.

Even the Terrell Owens/Philadelphia soap opera got way less coverage than this!

Damn good question....maybe they promised that once Brett was gone, it would go to Rodgers. this smells of Jimmy Johnson pushing out Dan Marino, Dolphins pushing out Dante Culpepper and Chiefs pushing out Trent Green.

Look let's all be honest here. Does anyone REALLY think that the Packers have anything resembling a legitimate shot at getting to the Super Bowl? Last year was a fluke. They barely won their games against good teams, their division was pretty weak (not to mention the NFC in general,) and let's not forget that this guy single-handedly ENDED the Packers season last year.
If Favre plays this year I picture him leading his team to the playoffs, and then losing in the first round.

And with Rogers? He puts them "over the hump"?

IMHO the Packers want to have their cake and eat it too. They don't want Favre to play for another team in the divison...fine, then keep him on the roster and pay him the salary that he is entitled to according to his contract. They don't want him on their own team because they don't have any intention of playing him, they don't want him to be a distraction as a backup and/or they don't want to pay his salary...fine, then release him or trade him to a team that he will play for. The Packers have to choose one or the other, they can't have it both ways.

I agree with those that have said Favre hasn't handled the situation correctly. HOWEVER, he HAS handled the situation within the rules of the NFL. He has the right to unretire provided the comissioner reinstates him (which he has) and he has the right to not report to a team that he is traded to if he chooses. It is the Packers who are not wanting to play within the rules of the NFL.

Which brings me back to Paul's question, why in the world don't the Packers want Favre? And if they are so convinced that he is not worthly to start for them then why the fear of him starting for one of their opponents??

BINGO! Sounds to me that the $20 million was for him to just go away....why?
