External hard drive question 3 of 3: Portability

I now have 3 2-tb hard drives for my 722k full of programs that I would hate to lose. If I get a different receiver, will these hard drives still work? For example, if my 722k dies, and I have to upgrade to a newer receiver, will I still be able to watch the shows I have recorded? Are the hard drives tied to the receiver, user or anything?

If you were to upgrade to another receiver, most likely a Hopper, yes, you can still watch anything that is on the EHDs...

The receivers have to belong to the same account.

If you upgrade to Hopper, you might not be able to play some of the programs recorded from channels that you no longer subscribe to.
There is a bug (or perhaps a feature - I hope not!) that will prevent the playback of some previously recorded programs.
(Even if they were recorded from channels that no longer exist.)

If you are asking about getting another VIP DVR, like a vip612 or another 722 yes they will play any of the programs. The Hopper is a question right now as mentioned, might not play if you no longer subscribe to the channel or it was during a freeview......

An EHD connected to a 722 will reformat if connected to a 211./411 and called in to activate.
