Ive posted about this at sonic, but I disagree.
I say go after those involved, but I see no reason to go after the current Penn State football players, and that is what would happen if they shut down the program. They were not there at the time, and they had nothing to do with it.

I do not see any NCAA jurisdiction here.

The players should be able to transfer with no penalty; the program needs to be seriously examined/and potentially sanctioned depending on what the investigation finds.

The NCAA has no business in this. It has nothing to do with the athetic program, so they should butt out and allow law enforcement do its job.

So letting some continue to use their athletic facilities has nothing to do with sports? Having not one, but 2 coaches AND the AD 'shows institional control' to the rest of the other schools?

It was not the players running amok, it was the coaches show no moral high ground...and show no lack of control on an athletic program and school.

Sorry, this has EVERYTHING to with the athletic program and NOTHING to do with the players

I could not agree more. The coaches and administration is at fault here.

Then get rid of them. Even a transfer can be a punishment on a player. Say one has lived there for three years, or has family in the area, or can not afford to move.
Or always dreamed of only playing for Penn State. Or any other number of reasons, perhaps there isnt a spot on another team for them, or they were simply a walk on that nobody else would consider.

Clean house if need be, but leave the house standing, and leave the players alone.

Anything the ncaa does can only impeed law enforcement, and wouldn't survive appeal. Sorry, but no NCAA rules were broken and I'd hate to see them screw up either the state or federal investigations.

I am inclined to agree at this point.

I agree the players did nothing.

There's no NCAA "jusridiction" regarding the Sandusky case at PSU. But, here's something the NCAA will definitely be interested in:

DAMN YOU!!! You beat me to the punch! I was just about to pust this!!

This FOR SURE will have the NCAA looking into the football program. And though they got rid of Paterno, they AD allowed Paterno to get his way.

...lack of institutional control!

Actually, it's probably the opposite...excessive institutional control?? ;)

You have to know this kind of thing goes on across the country at MANY major schools...even the schools WE root for. It probably happens in basketball too to some extent, but the big moneymaker is football, so it's much more prevalent there.

So many coaches have own kingdoms where they are more powerful than even the local authorities in many cases...and the local authorities know it.

It takes something as nauseating as the rape of a child for this to be exposed at a college like Penn State. Many other crimes would have been 'business as usual'.

It is part of the process.
Defending said monster does not mean that the lawyer is a monster in kind.
It is the system we have. I wont attack them for being part of it. We require someone to do it.

I understand the process, but at the end of the day, how do you look yourself in the mirror? That's what I'm saying. I'd feel dirty and unfulfilled if that was my life's work.

Yep, it happens everywhere. I saw it alot at USM when I was there, and I know it goes on at Bama as well. They are held to a different standard than the normal student. It isnt right, but it happens.

Had the big story not come out at PSU, then this would have been ignored. However, as it stands, look for many more things such as this to come to light.

It takes all kinds. I am not saying I would want the job either, but I wont necessarily condem those that do it.

I would not doubt that this goes on in every single university that plays sports. But because Penn State is going through this very ugly situation...EVERYTHING that more or less would have been considered "ho hum"...is now gonna come out and make matters WORSE for them.

Yup, I agree...pretty much the same thing I said.

So out of all the lawyers out there, THIS is the guy Sandusky picks to represent him? A guy who impregnated a 16 year old girl when he was 48 years old?

Jerry Sandusky

The choices that get made out there are just bizarre.

The lawyer for former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky said Wednesday that he might have to talk to his client at some point about pleading guilty to charges of child sex abuse.

"That could happen if more allegations come forth and Jerry gets to the point where he realizes fighting against more than the original allegations might be a real uphill battle," Amendola said, according to the newspaper. "Bottom line, Jerry has always maintained his innocence, from the first allegation, and continues to maintain innocence. What happens with any additional charges which may be filed remains to be seen."

Unless he was trying to make jury selection harder than it already will be, why would a defense attorney say publicly that his client might consider a guilty plea?
