ST. PETERSBURG -- ESPNU is coming to Tampa Bay.

The network that shows college sports and was launched in 2005 will make its area debut Tuesday on Bright House Networks digital cable in the Tampa Bay market. The network will be on Ch. 151 at no extra cost for digital subscribers in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Citrus, Polk, Pasco, Manatee and Hernando counties. Digital subscribers are ones with the cable "box" and make up more than half of Bright House subscribers.

"This is a very big deal," Bright House spokesman Joe Durkin said. "The Tampa Bay community is a sports-minded community, and we're happy to bring even more sports to them. This is great news for sports fans to now have all the ESPN channels."

ESPNU features about 500 live events a year and coverage includes football and men's and women's basketball mixed with baseball, softball, volleyball, lacrosse, ice hockey, wrestling and more. ESPNU also offers comprehensive studio programming, such as SportsCenterU, ESPNU Coaches Spotlight, ESPNU Recruiting Insider and National Signing Day, plus specials, such extensive coverage and previews of the NBA and NFL drafts.

It's likely that ESPN Classic, ESPNU and ESPNews will be clumped together on consecutive channels, most likely 150, 151 and 152.
