In the wake of its $4.4 billion agreement to purchase Starz, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said the studio is looking forward to “conversations” with its partners in Epix, hinting that those talks could include a possible exit from the fledgling premium channel.
Not that it really matters, I am just curious, what is your train of thought in your preference for them not to acquire Starz? I really do not see any negatives, seems one of the better outcomes for a spun off network that has been having to stand independent for the past few years. They will have a feeder for films and series that has previously not been available. Lionsgate is not a "huge multimedia conglomerate" on par with Viacom, Time Warner, Disney, etc... Since Malone's goal with spinning Starz off of one of the Liberty companies was ultimately an acquisition, I really can't see how it could have turned out any better for a "independent" suitor.
If Lionsgate "exits" I don't see Epix hanging around much longer. I have read rumors (only rumors and talk) that Viacom (Paramount's parent) might be trying to "re-merge" with CBS, which would bring Showtime back into the Viacom fold, and thus an outlet for Paramount films, this would leave MGM as the last man standing with Epix. Perhaps if that comes to fruition, Epix and Showtime might merge together.
Look at subscriber numbers, Epix has approximately 10,000,000 while Showtime has about 22,800,000 as of December. Please explain how a service with over twice as many subscribers which also grew last year, from what I read as, "dying."
Distribution..22mil out of 80 million..vs epics customers are part of a package..so a merged operation could potentially reach far higher numbers..selling it like yes network..that's why sports switched from pay tv model to traditional cable model
You are talking about a combined Epix and Starz I was talking about both independently. Lionsgate (may) pull out of Epix anyway.
If Lionsgate pulls out of EPIX it gives Starz Liongate content to replace Disney. Prices likely stay the same.

Starz original slate is much better than HBO's by far overall. GOT/SV/VEEP is still the best though

No cause Lionagate likely will pull out of EPIX and send their movies to Starz.

Showtime has orginials, EPIX doesn't. Showtime will stay around if those two merge.

As an opinion some would say that, for others and as numbers who watch and awards it's HBO original programming.
Epix is getting into the original scripted fare. They have a "Get Shorty" TV Series in the works and a show called "Graves" starring Nick Nolte.
My opinion about both channels is lackluster and I have both the networks as a part of the DISH Movie Pass until they remove them from the package and when that day happens then the Dish Movie Pass gets removed from my service.

Epic doesn't have sports and any concerts can go to AXStv, yahoo, or the Viacom suite.

Linear numbers don't tell the whole story and after GOT/SV/Veep the HBO numbers are pretty bad.
