When someone connects an EHD to a receiver like the Wally, which isn't natively a DVR, does the hard drive fill up with PPV movies, On Demand Titles, and commercials in reserve just like the receivers with native DVR's?

I bought a 2 TB Western Digital drive to connect to my Wally when it's installed Friday and I'm curious how much actual recording space I'll have versus the amount of space reserved by Dish.

Dish does not reserve anywhere near as much space in this case. The Wally does not have access to the satellite-delivered VOD that would appear in the guide on channel 1 and channel 501 on a native DVR. The only VOD on a Wally is internet-delivered, so there is no need to reserve the hard drive space for that purpose.

But what about the local commercial drop-ins?

I haven't noticed them. Then again, I don't watch a lot of commercials, at least not on channels that would have the inserted ads.
I mostly only noticed the inserted ads on a native DVR when I happened to have the same channel in both windows of side-by-side PIP. One window would have the inserted ad, while the other window had the original ad that was supposed to be covered up. The Wally does not do PIP at all, so that makes it harder to tell.

It is YOUR drive so DISH doesn't use any of it, you get ALL of it for your recording (except for the tiny bit the 9 day guide uses)
