Considering how the 922 has a ethernet jack, I would think that it could use FiOS IPTV just fine if they wrote the software to do it.

Note FiOS doesn't use IPTV, except for VOD.

FiOS delivers all linear channels using a 860MHz QAM system. The main difference between FiOS and traditional cable companies, besides the absence of analog channels, is the use of IP (rather than QAM) to deliver VOD and guide data. Internet / Data is delivered with a separate wavelength of fiber, so it does not take any bandwidth away from TV.

The True2Way standard only supports VOD and guide information delivered over QAM. Verizon has proposed that some existing CableCard hooks be reserved for another standard known as VueKey; VueKey would support guide information and VOD delivered over IP.

Exactly! Verizon continues to insist that the tru2way standard is cable proprietary and will not work with FiOS. Therefore, EchoStar would have to make a 922 version specifically for Verizon.

The real scoop related to this product is "what cable provider does Echostar have an arrangement with ?". It would be plain stupid if Echostar developed this hardware without some commitment from a second provider (Dish Network doesn't exactly count).

Personally, I'm very skeptical that any competitor of Dish's will use "Dish" hardware.

I ageee...although EchoStar distance itself from Dish Network (sort of), I feel they will have to market this under the Sling brand or some other name.
