DVR fees?!?

Well this thread made me go back to my bill. Earlier in this thread a comment was made that there was no DVR charge on the 1st DVR. Is this true??? Or is this a case by case situation??? I currently have a 622 and (2) 612's. My current billing is..............
America's Everything Pak 104.99
Blockbuster@Home - 1 Disc 10.00
HD DVR Receiver 10.00
HD DVR Receiver 10.00
DVR Receiver 10.00
DVR Service 6.00
HD 250 Free ($10/Mo) 0.00
5 Superstations 7.00
....................
Total$ 157.99
What is the DVR receiver $10.00 for? Are they charging me for the 510 receiver(I own) that has been sitting unplugged on the floor since 12/2010 when it was replaced by the 622? The reason the 622 was installed I was told the 510 would not work.
My other question is what exactly is the DVR service fee?
Thanks for any info you can give.

Yes, it looks like you are being charged for the 510, as you should only have receiver fees for the two 612s, but you are being charged for 3 DVR receivers. Go the the "My Equipment" section of your account on their website to check.

The DVR Service fee is the subject of this thread, and is an account-level charge if you have at least one DVR on your account (not counting 211s w/EHD).

jbrelish:

It looks like there is a mistake in your billing.

The 622, should be uncharged, the 612's are $10 each, so they are are in your pants for $10/month.

Contact a DIRT team member here and get it fixed.

Hmmm... I pm'd one yesterday, still no reply. I am not going to make a big deal of it. If they overcharged me then maybe lets work on a Hopper/Joey deal. And if I am not supposed to be paying the $10.00, I will take that and pay for the Protection Plan which I currently do not have. So they should have no fear in contacting me. They still will be getting the money.

you should go over all the bills and get the actual $ amount of how much you were wrongfully charged.

even so, they will probably just offer you some ppv coupons.

I just googled Bell Canada satellite fees. Perhaps this is not universal in Canada but they charge $13.86/month to rent a HD PVR or $500 to buy it. I guess there are no further fees if you buy it unlike in the US. As I see it you are still paying for a DVR, just a different method of getting your money.

Yes that's correct. With Bell if you buy your own equipment then there is absolutely no additional monthly fees.

Extra Fees

Most cable companies, Verizon, and Direct all have dvr fees hear in the US. Also fees for each receiver after the first. They probably would put a useage fee on your toilet, if they could.

You mean, they're not charging you a toilet fee?

Just kidding. But I agree with you about the fees. Here in Hawaii we have the added honor of also paying another $5 mo. just to have service. They call it a DISH 500 fee.

.

Please send me a PM with your phone or account number. The two ViP612's would be an additional $10 per month each. If you were being charged for the ViP622 you would see an additional fee of $17 per month.

Thanks for the response. DIRT member MattG has already taken care of it(I hope, will see if bill reflects solution). I was being charged for the 512D receiver which was not in use since December 2010, the day the 622 was installed. The tech told me the 512D would not work with the 1000.4 EA setup. It was supposed to be deactivated the same time I activated the 622. So I didn't think anything about it, thought it was handled. I didn't question the monthly total until I read this thread, that's why I posted a copy/paste of my bill.

Matt set up a $10.00 credit per month for a year to correct it. I did ask about using the credit toward a Hopper/Joey setup. Apparently Dish won't do that. He also informed me the Hopper/Joey receivers cannot be mixed with other receivers. It seems it's all Hopper/Joey only. What I wanted was to replace the 2-612's with a Hopper and 2-Joeys. No go. So I did learn something and I now know I will never go with a Hopper/Joey system unless I am forced to do so and Dish is paying for the upgrade.

Again thanks to those who offered advice, to those who helped and to those who offered to help.

I thought Dish was suppose to get rid of that fee for Alaska and Hawaii subs last December??? PM a DIRT member to make sure

Thanks for the tip. I PM'd DIRT member Zach and he got the fee removed!

I have to agree with the posts I've been seeing here - the DIRT team is great!
