I have a dish setup with two dishes and two receivers. One receiver is a DVR 510 10 hour recording model and the other one is a regular "vanilla receiver". Both use "smart-cards". I woudld like to replace the "vanilla" receiver with a DVR 510 to haver two DVR's. My neighbor has an already activated, used, off-warranty 510 and he said I could have it as he's moving to an HDTV DVR model.

Question--can I just drop his pvr-510 in place of my current "vanilla" second (non-510 DVR) Receiver and put the smart card in it and get a second working PVR 510 on my existing network?

Does that work? Are there some obstacles to me doing this?

Any help would be appreciated... thx..

Clarify--Would I just be able to put the smart card from ym "vanilla basic Dish receiver" in his DVR-510 and use it in place of my basic receiver--to get two DVR-510's?

The receiver and card are "married" and you cannot exchange either with another. You must have Dish turn on a new receiver and will be billed accordingly. Expect to pay $10/mo additional for the extra receiver and DVR. If your card is not yellow, expect to wait to receive a new card. A missing card will cost ~$50.

You need to get the smart card that came with the receiver, they have to be sold/transferred as a set. Having no smart card should be seen as a red flag to stay away unless you're talking about the newest models (x11, x22, 625, 942) that have an empty card slot and the electronics built in.

Losing 148 signal for unknown reason.

5000 went dead, replacement on way, then starts working again.
