So where exactly is the evidence it costs E* over $700 per new sub??? Did that info come from the one of the talking heads from Charlie's Dish PR Dept?
Dish's 10k report. It would be pretty serious to lie in that document (although they do cite "over 120 national hd channels"). In 2004, it was $611. You could probably find earlier fillings to see how much you personally cost.

I would say they break even if not make a little profit the first year. The 2nd year is all profit. Thats why everytime they lease you a new Receiver ,you have to commit 24 months.
You are correct about this. The average monthly revenue per subscriber is $69.70; the subscriber acquisition cost is $720; they break even sometime during the eleventh month of service, on average (during 2008).

Of course, that doesn't include programming costs.

Hey you know, it was basically DN idea to have everybody lease receivers. They should have just left it to have everybody own their receivers and then their upfront new sub costs would have been less.

Back when it was owned as the mainstream, they were subsidizing the sale prices. So, new sub costs were still high and the corporation had no assets to show for it. :)

DiSHPlayer was only $150-$199.

When calling retention some folks might get a good deal to stay while others might be given the number to call DirecTV.

No retention offer is going to be the same.

It is all based on a number of factors. Did you know it cost Dish Network over $700 for each new customer they sign up and it takes years for them to recover that startup cost from a customer.

So don't expect to call retention and expect to get a great deal, while it may happen chances are it might not.

I was offered $10 credit for 5 months after going through a lot of heck to get locals in HD. And actually I was not offered it. Had to ask. So guess it depends on who you talk to.

D* adds subs because they treat New customer like Kings and Queens, While exsiting customers don't get crap!
Sorry But E* Treats its exsiting Customers way better then D*. They might drop channels ,but E* still makes good on it ,atleast for me anyway.
I've Only been with E* since July 4th 2007, and in that time I've gotten 2 Free HD DVRs,1 for $49,(722) a (612) for $49 and a (211k) for $25 , While Getting HBO and Starz Promotion Twice ,Free for 3 months, HD platinum Free for 3 months, and Now $10 off for $12 months. All in less then 2 years

5 Years with D* I got HD extra pack Free for 3 months, 1 free SD SVR, $5 off for 6 months and Free HBO and Cinemax for 3 months.
Most of D* Credits I got From Retention . So I canceled Service , And they were Burning up the phone lines Offering Free HD DVRs to me. Keep them D*

I have to agree about D*. I called them and got $5 off for three months. This after I see my package (to new subs) is $21/mo cheaper for a YEAR. CAn't switch though.

Well Hemi ... I owe you one :up

My "offers" have always been lame ... like Dish it up for example and that's it.

I thought hey ... lets see if there is anything there ...

To my surprise I had HBO and Starz free for 3 months and PlatinumHD free for 3 months. That is a $90 value total. Via chat I had them set it up so the packages would be automatically removed at the end of the 3 months.

My DVR will hopefully be busy the next three months ... which will be good when the summer re-runs kick in ...

Thanks again! :up
It's people like you taking advantage of free offers that make the bills for the rest of us go up. Thanks for nothing.

[/sarcasm off] :D Though unfortunately I would guess that some on here will blast you for taking advantage of a deal.

Remind me when I get my wife's next car to pay full MSRP ... wouldn't want to get an unfair deal that everyone else has to pay for.

That is break even on revenue only. You are forgetting the cost of doing business.

I think I'll make jwgreen's bill go up and call Dish's 800 number and fool around in the menu for a couple of hours...
