Directv customer retention lies about DISH Network

Is this not your second "Discount" in as many months?

You signed up in November .. got the equipment/discounts that were on offer ($23 + whatever promo was available at the time)

Then an additional $15 per month because you sneezed, then an additional $20 per month + $75 ?

That's $60+ in discounts per month that you have reported so far ... Have you not criticized people on these forums in the past for this type of behavior with Dish Network?

I got this same "Don't go Directv Sucks" when i left Dish ... in fact only last week i was getting harassing calls from Dish after i had asked them not to call me anymore ... works both ways ... seems to me like with $60+ per month in discounts, rather than complain about them - you should be singing their praises.

Only another 10 months for me with Directv and i'll be back to choosing a new provider that will give me the most discounts for the next 2 years .. I have no problem using a companies own desperation against them, if they offer the discount .. i'm willing to take it.

They never gave me the $23 off per month because of something about that it could not be combined with Sunday Ticket.

Right now im at $62.29 after a $15 per month discount, and after them telling me $45 per month going forward today, that leaves me with $32.29 per month in promotional credits.

My while issue with Directv is 2 things...

#1 They are the ones stupid enough not to call my bluff in the first place and offer me all of these credits. If this was Dish Network I would have had to work alot harder to get them to do anything, and then they probably would have let me cancel and told me to pay the cancellation fee before they went ahead and authorized $32 per month in credits.

#2 I yet to watch an hour of programming on Directv, thats why I have Dish. All I wanted was a lower package, and I would have gladly went with Directv's equivlent to the DISH Welcome pack, or even the family pack. But no, they won't let me do that, with the hardware I have on the account they expect me to have one of their bigger packages. Case and point, I have Directv for Sunday Ticket and MLB. If this was Dish, they would let me have the Welcome pack, or let me subscribe without taking a minimum programming package.

Until Directv changes their policys and lets me subscribe to only the packages I want to receive, calling them and playing games with their retention department to get additional discounts is the only way im going to get the bill to something thats reasonable.

If you want to get a better price on your Directv service, call Directv and tell them you want to cancel. If retention is un-willing to do anything for you, set the disconnect date a week out and wait for someone to call you with a special offer to stay.

I've always ruled my life, my careers and my businesses by comparing my potential decisions and choices in life decisions against 3 core value yardsticks - legal, moral & ethical.

Apparently, others may think 1 or 2 out of 3 are OK - your choice, your life. The Academy taught me much differently (and thank you taxpayers for the education - but you got way more than your money's worth and were paid back many times over). At least those of you that don't "game" on your taxes too.

My way allowed my wife & I to retire several years ago at 49, and I very sleep well at night with a completely clear conscience and don't nickel and dime my way through my day "gaming" life. Learned early on that each day is a real gift - depending on what you decide to do with it.

Consumer slamming in my mind is fraud - abet legal fraud - but morally wrong and unethical just the same.

Apparently, morals and honesty don't mean as much as they once did - but they still do to me. Call it gaming the system if you want, but fraud and deceit just ain't the way to go through your life.

Again, just my perspective.

Wow, I hope this mindset is not prevalent within Satelliteguys Staff Members(If so, I hope the CE program and first-looks get pulled from you guys.)

How the hell are they going bill something that's more "reasonable" when they have to cover(And somewhere down the line we pay in higher fees) what you don't pay(Because of the discounts)?

Someone needs to grow-up and chip in there part.

 1st of all i believe that the OP is a dish retailer and 2nd, what does the actions or opinions of one person that happens to be on the staff have to do with the CE program?

Ok, I thought the Staff Member title meant he worked for or with Satelliteguys.us.

:2nd, what does the actions or opinions of one person that happens to be on the staff have to do with the CE program?
It doesn't, but it being prevalent within Satelliteguys.us Staff Members tells me they have no respect for DirecTV or their subs(and then should't be able to host CE or first looks as that's a privilege). but as I have no proof one way or the other I reserve my judgment.

First of all,

The CE program is a wonderful program here, Please dont put any opinions of what Claude has done on the CE program here as it does do alot of good and we have a wonderful relationship with Directv. In saying that Satelliteguys.us staff members have no respect for Directv is 100% False and a completely inaccurate statement. I know Don, Jason, Scott, and myself have directv and love it.

Next, No staff member here works for Satelliteguys.us. We all volunteer our time for satelliteguys and NOBODY gets paid. Thats why we ask if you want to sign up for D* please use a staff member as a referral. I dont agree with what Claude did, but he did what he thought was the best deal for him. Sometimes we all get a little cloudy like that, Hell I know that I have in the past. Please Don't hang everyone for the actions of a single person.

Now cant we all get into one big circle and sing Koombaya? Or how about this, Watch the Blackhawks KILL the Redwings and watch the Detroit fans cry! :D HAHA! :)

None of us Work for SatelliteGuys, we volunteer... I've had Satellite TV since '82 or '83 & Directv since 96 so if I have no respect for Directv would I still be with them? and as for hosting the CE, Directv is a public company and really has been impressed with what we do for BOTH Satellite providers...and the last time I looked this is the US and we all have free speech...

I said IF it was prevalent within Satelliteguys.us, as it looks like it's not then that's a good thing.

Where does free speech come in when a sub tries to game the system and make all of us pay more in picking up his tab?

That's fine if what he was doing didn't effect the rest of us, but sooner later we're going having pick up his tab in higher fees.

That's good to hear.

When talking discounts and raising rates....The Satellite companies also offer pretty generous discounts to keep folks from moving on and after to come back. I just got a note in the mail to come back to direct and they were offering the current new sub program (12 months discounted rates) I have been away from Direct for about a month. I would think, but I dont know this for sure becouse I had one company for about nine years (Direct) that periodicly I will keep getting them.I dont mind this as it will let me know they may want my business back. Down the road if I really have the Sunday ticket blues next season, wont do this season becouse I was ready for a bit of a break from sunday ticket, maybe there will be something that will catch my eyes.

I think that part is fine as Dish or DirecTV are trying to gain subs(Or keep them), but when a sub calls in and tries to game the system and has no intention of leaving then IMHO I think that wrong.

Discounts on a irregular bases for current subs I think are fine but not back to back and in high value.

If Dish or Direct said NO there would not be the game involved. Not allowing re negotiations of the contract would solve the issue then we could all have "lower" rates. Not that we would get them. ;)
We are being told everyday to renegotiate. Credit cards, mortgage rates etc. If you choose not to, that is your choice and it is not a moral or ethical issue, it is part of doing business.

Wow, Enjoyed D* that much hun?;)

Directv is the best provider available to me .. i've had cable, dish and directv over the past 8-10 years and Directv is hands down the best of the three .. having said that ... The channels that I can get from alll three are pretty much the same ... (I get all channels - plus HD apart from premium movies and sports which I have no interest in)

If one provider will give me those channels for $30 per month less than another .. i'm going to go where the savings are ...

For $5 or $10 per month i probably wouldn't bother ... but $20-$30 per month .. to me .. is significant enough to make me compare providers and make a decision based on money. If all providers were priced the same I would be with Directv.

What i won't do however is agree to a 2-year price and then complain that it's too expensive ... I know what my cost is going to be going into those 2 years .... I should be prepared to pay that price .... and I am ... for the duration of my contract. I don't consider it "gaming" if I am simply taking the best signup offer that is available to me at the time i commit to a new contract.

:)

Wow i could make a great comment here about the topic starter but i won't since he is a Retailer and Staff member......

Man, I can just imagine the blazing inferno there would be here if someone like the OP posted this about gaming Dish, because of the very obvious DN slant to this board.

Everybody has their opinion, and they are very entitled to them.

I still think the conduct of the OP was unethical at the least and morally wrong. And, quite frankly, displays very little character by boasting of it on this public forum board.

Claude just wanted NFL Sunday Ticket and didn't want the other content so he was trying to find a way to make up for it by getting discounts. Directv forces you to take their basic package to take the NFL SUnday TIcket.

I do not see a problem with trying to get as many discounts as you can as it is good to be able to negotiate your price. If Directv cannot afford to do it then they shouldn't offer it. Directv may also not know about that "catch" and may stop doing it once they catch on, especially after reading about it on here. They are still making money even with the discounts in most cases but eventually they will not want to give that many discounts so that they can make the profit that they want to make. Usually the way I ask for discounts though is that if they offer it to other members on this board then I will ask for them too because that is only fair that I get them as well considering how much I pay monthly for the programming.
