DishDVR Advantage

I need to look at dropping the DHPP after the "free" month since the change from Basic Warranty to DHPP amounted to a 200% increase. If I do that, I'll save money from what I had before, but not to the point I was before getting the ViP receivers. I own my ViP 211 and lease the ViP 622. Will Dish require me to have DHPP if I lease a receiver from them?

Since so many people are STILL confused about the pricing for the DishDVR let me explain exactly how it is.

You start with a base package. This includes the DVR fee for one receiver, and America's Top 200 w/ locals. Anything else is extra such as lease fees, and DHPP. Also, you are required to either do a 18 month commitment or do Credit Card Autopay, and you must qualify for locals. Note, you must select at least two premiums or DishHD.

DishDVR Advantage $49.99

HBO + Showtime $20.00
Two premiums* $20.00
HBO + One premium $22.00
Three or more premiums $10.00 each
or
DishHD $20.00
Any premium $10.00 each

*Cinemax, Showtime, Starz Movie Pack, Playboy, America's Top 250 Bonus Pack

Example 1, I have a 625 receiver and I want to get the DVR Advantage Plan with HBO and Starz. It would be $49.99 for the DVR Advantage Plan, and then $22.00 for both Top250 and Showtime. Total of $71.99.

Example 2, I have a ViP622 receiver and I want to get the DVR Advantage Plan with DishHD, Top250, HBO, Skinemax er I mean Cinemax, and Playboy. It would be $49.99 for the DVR Advantage Plan, $20.00 for DishHD, and then $40.00 for all premiums. Total of $109.99.

Everyone got it now? It's not hard.

BTW, there are a couple of advantages for getting DVR Advantage over America's Everything Pack. One, guaranteed price untill I think 2009. Two, a whopping $1.00/month in savings! That's a whole $12 per year!!! heheh.

They must be giving you some kind of credit since the DVR Advantage Plan only covers the DVR Fee for one DVR. Your free DHP will probably be for 18 months as I'm going to guess that you did an 18 month commitment instead of CC Autopay.

I just got Dish installed one week ago--I got my first bill yesterday (for 2 months of service), but instead of the DVR Advantage plus HD that I had ordered, they itemized it and charged me separately for everything. I called to tell them they made a mistake in my package but the lady argued with me that that's what I had ordered.

I don't know if they STILL don't know the new package? I was arguing with her that I was supposed to get the DVR Advantage with HD (thus equaling $70 a month) and she kept telling me that that's what I got--AT 200 with locals ($47.99), DVR fee ($5.98), plus HD ($20) for a total of $74. I kept telling her NO, it's supposed to be a package (I had already signed up for 18 months and have autopay on my CC) for $70. She kept telling me that I already have the package, I kept arguing that I didn't. Then she tried to tell me that I had to sign up for DVR Advantage when I ordered service, that is was a promotion that I couldn't get now, so once again I argued with her that that's what I was supposed to get, that I am not the one who made the mistake!! So I finally asked her to speak to a manager or supervisor, she puts me on hold, then comes back to tell me that my bill has been adjusted the way it was supposed to be. Now I have to wait 48 hours for the online account to update to make sure it's been changed!

I am just surprised that they STILL don't fully understand all of the packages, I felt like I had to keep explaining to HER what I was supposed to be getting. Ugh, I hope it turns out right this time!!

Well I signed up on the web and it said "successful" once, this was about a week ago. The only new activity on my account since then was a delete and re-add of the DVR fee (?) so I called last night and they signed me up.

This morning I notice I am getting HBO and Showtime, which I did NOT ask for, and a lot of strange charges in my account:
02/21 02/21 AMERICA'S TOP 250 WITH 02/21 TO 03/27 -71.07
02/21 02/21 DISH NETWORK DVR SERVICE 02/21 TO 03/27 -7.33
02/21 02/21 DISHDVR ADVANTAGE, YOU 02/21 TO 03/27 61.26
02/21 02/21 DISHHD 02/21 TO 03/27 -24.51
02/21 02/21 DISHHD WITH 3 PREMIUM 02/21 TO 03/27 61.26
02/21 02/21 2 PREMIUM PACKAGE 02/21 TO 03/27 -26.96
02/21 02/21 2 PREMIUM PACKAGE 02/20 TO 03/27 27.66
Looks like basically my bill has gone UP by around $20. I'll call again tonight after those recordings on HBO-HD are done :)

Edit: Called back, spoke to a nice lady in Bangalore who fixed it. I had her read back exactly what I am subscribed to and it is now AT250 with locals (DVR Advantage + 250) and HD for a total of $79.99 which is exactly what I had to begin with for $83.97.

How bout some more confusion? I am a subscriber to the multi-regional sports pack for $5.99. Looks like Dish moved me to the 250 program and I'm still getting billed for the sports pack. I thought those channels were in the 250 so I think I'm getting double billed. Is that right?

I don't understand your math when comparing the DishDVR Advantage to the AEP

Using your Example 2 but adding Showtime and replacing Playboy with Starz would add an additional $10 for a total of $119.99. If one was to subscribe to the AEP (or its new name: America's Top 250 + Premium Movie Pkg) for $89.99, (which includes the DVR fee according to BFG) and then add the HD Pkg @ $20, the total would be $109.99. That's 10 dollars cheaper for the same programming. Of course you don't get the locals but I prefer OTA for locals due to the additional programming available on secondary channels (e.g. local wx and TheTube plus a couple of out of market stations). I consider $120 a year significant and I suspect the price increase in 2008 for the AEP + HD Pkg will be less than $10 so, unless I missed something, the AEP + HD Pkg is a better deal all around.

...

18 months committment OR Credit Card autopay?
So, if use credit card autopay, there is no 18 months commitment?

Are you sure that one must select at least two premium or DishHD. They seems to advertise that you can have barebone DVR_Advantage with AT200 for pay only $49.95.

I'm not too clear on wether you need to select two premiums. This is basically the way Dish seems to put it on their website.

As to red hazard. If you get all premiums except for Playboy you would actually save money by going with AEP vs DVR Advantage. You actually save less when you have more than two premiums. Your best savings would be to have HBO + Playboy + AT250.

AEP is $89.99, $5.00 for locals, $20 for DishHD. That's a total of $114.99. So that's roughly a $5.00 savings over DishDVR w/ 4 premiums + AT250 + DishHD.

DVR Advantage

OK, I've read the 14 pages, and was probably too dense to find the answer to my question.

It's a simple one. I'm subscribed to the 200 now, one DVR, two receivers, locals, DHP included. Is there any reason NOT to sign up for DVR Advantage converting to AutoPay?

One more twist--I was going to roll this into my Embarq bill (I've tried this twice, to no avail) as it would save an extra $5/month. I'm guessing if I do that I'll lose the DVR Advantage if I enroll?

Seems like this should be basic, but CSR's don't make it that way...

Can't help you with the Embarq, but as far as the DVR Advantage program, you might have to resign another 18 month commitment to keep your DHP free. That would be the only thing you have to decide, otherwise it does seem like a pretty easy choice!

Color me frustrated this morning. Someone can you please help me out. I 've scanned all 14 pages and I was pretty sure I could do this....and they won't let me.

I have a Dish 625 (leased), 250 package (or now its called that), locals, no movie channels

I want to go to a 622, stay with the 250 package, locals, HD service..

With the DishAdvantage I was guessing I should be paying....
250+locals= 57.99
HD package= 20.00
HD leased fee= 6.00
Total is $84.00

but they are telling me I also must pick up an additional movie channel for $10 more a month...i'm telling them I don't want to and I was to understand some folks here were able to ask them not to!!! Now this was my first time and I got a crappy CSR from Mumbai...so I'm wondering if I need to move up the chain. I've been a Dish Network subscriber for 6 years now...don't want to leave but with Comcast doing some cool stuff here I'm not going to attempt to throw down the gauntlet. I really want to make this work because I want to get HD programming and I've got an antenna up that would give me all my locals in HD! Which leads me to another question which is if I don't get my locals on Dish can I still schedule to record my HD locals on the DVR? Okay lots o questions...I'm looking forward to your answers. Thanks for the replies!

They are wrong, Nick. You either need to try another csr or email ceo@dishnetwork.com .

Even better, a recent FaxBlast from dish to retailers has indicated that for a SINGLE RECEIVER DishinItUp (like your 622) their is no $6 lease fee! So you bill would be $79.

Thanks Dave:

I have fired off an email and I'll see if I get a response I'm hoping for. I'm still wondering about whether I can preset antenna HD channels without having the locals purchased? Just a thought for down the road.

Cheers,
Nick

Yes, Nick, you can tune in and record OTA HD with your 622 - however, you WILL NOT have any guide data for those channels unless you subscribe to your locals. Your guide would just display LOCAL DIGITAL. You would have to setup timers manually to record any OTA stuff.

How does Dish usually deal with recalcitrant locals?
