Called Dish and after 2 minute wait got an appointment to get my 211 installed tomorrow. No trade in required. $100 charge installed. Chose to send in my 311 for a $25.00 rebate, but not required. Signed up for the new programs for $5 more per month. I already get 120 plus HD and Voom with one extra reciever. NO lease fee on the first receiver.

I sure hope you get a 211, but as has been the case, they are still sending out 811's. The $100 charge makes me thing 811 still.

Did you order from Dish directly?

I've heard the same thing. The OP will have to let us know what happened. I'm still working the numbers and seeing if it's worth it, and then I'll call after 2/1 since the channels won't be on until then anyway. Plus I want to see how this MPEG-2 vs. MPEG-4 thing shakes out.

Ordered from Dish directly. Didn't ask about an 811, but the CSR said it was a Vip211 and not a 411.

Since everyone here expressed such doubt about my 211 installation, I called Dish back to verify the 211 and find out who the installer would be. The CSR checked and said I was scheduled for either an 811/411/ or 211 installation. I told her that I was not interested in a 41 and already had an 811 as there computer should show. After on Hold for nearly 20 minutes, she came back and said it was a 411. Since I was not interested in a 411, I canceled the installation. She said that the other CSR did not gurantee me a 211. I told her that I was assured that it would be a Vip211 at least four time and did not appreciate her calling me a liar. She then said that the other CSR sould not have told me that, since she put in in the computer as a 811/411/211 installation. She had not idea when I could call and get a 211. I doubt that things would be any clearer by next Monday.

I love how Dish announces programs to their customers before they train their CSRs on how to deal with the new programs. GENIUS!

Well this was kind of expected, but I think most of us were hoping it would be true and you'd get a 211. I saw in another thread where someone ordered theirs yesterday. I'm waiting to see if they end up with the 811 or 411 as well.

So if Dish installs an 811 today, is the customer on the hook to pay for the 211 upgrade when it is available? If so, that doesn't seem right.

I would have taken the 411. for some reason, I don't see Dish using that ethernet port anytime soon.

Yeah! But I would have to pay for another upgrade, if I determined that I needed the 211 technology. I am not paying for out of date technology, anymore.

I did speak with the installer. He called to confirm the installation. He said that it may be up to two months before he gets any 211's.

The 411 is a 211 without a ethernet port. Unless something was announced about the 411 that I am not seeing. As for out of date technology. get used to it. It's all out of date rather quickly and you'd kill yourself trying to keep up.

The 211 has already replaced the 411, so why buy a 411.

Where do you find that info? I saw nothing about the 411 being dicontinued within weeks of being released.

Really? I completely missed it. Well, I stand corrected. But since there were so many threads flying around and updates so fast, I can see how I missed it. Pretty bad the CSR's don't even know it existed! :)

What a waste of money for dish to even bother producing it and now they have to support the ones that are out there. So sad. But maybe they will be cleared out at retailers for a worthwhile price.
I know my local installer just got a shipment of them in and retail is like $400 on them.

The new high definition MPEG2/MPEG4 receiver started production as model 411, but almost immediately a production design change was made to add an Ethernet port for potential future expansion. With that design change, the receiver name was changed to VIP211. Who knows when or if the Ethernet port will be used or for what purpose? Having a 411 now seems much better than being in line for months waiting for a VIP211.

That is my biggest question. Given Dish's track record who knows when/if the ethernet port will ever be activated (heck we could hack it and circumvent DMCA and copy all our stuff digitally).

I would have no problem with a 411 if they brought me one or offerred me one in upgrade. but that is just me.

942 to a 211
