Dish to unveil 4k?

If you want the Black Friday 55 inch Hisence, Or TCL for $398 you can go right ahead and buy 10 of them.

I don't want garbage just because it says 4K .
They have the 60" Sammies and Sony's for about $1700-2000. That was inline with what I bought my 55" Sharp for in 2012. They are definitely coming down in price, but until Samsung and Sony market at $500 or less for a 55" or greater, I likely will not be buying one. I can see my HDTV just fine. It wouldn't break my heart if 4K never existed, although if a tv dies, I have no problem replacing it at that point with the best choice available for the best price available.

It will be a while before I'm in the market for a new TV. By that time the dust should of settled about the future of 4K. It looks to me that a 4K TV will be my next purchase. It's the future and I want to be there.

But, i'm right about the 1080i being better than 720p part, yeah?
Yes and no. I am a huge 1080 fan, and leave mine set that way, but when you have stuff from channels like Disney that are broadcast from Disney in 720, the 720 looks significantly better. Some locals do that as well, but it is rare.

I have a 60 Inch Vizio 240 Hz M- Series Smart TV and only paid $850 last year from Sam's Club and I'm quite Impressed.
It replaced our 55 inch 3D ($800)Sammy that I wasn't impressed with the PQ when I first bought it let alone the only 2 HDMI ports.
We kept it 10 months, sold it for $300 to my sister in law.

I have a 40 Inch Sammi in my Bedroom that's around 2 years old ,That is just a 1080p 60HZ.
It was only $400.
Same pathetic 2 HDMI ports.
The PQ is good though, and it serves well.
So I'm not against Sammys, But I will look at LG, Vizios,Sony, and Panasonic.

When this one goes, I want to upgrade to a 43 or 48.
4K as long as the Price is in Check, and I don't have to buy a Hisence, Emerson, Sanyo, Element, Coby, Westinghouse ,Dynex, Insignia.

Otherwise, I have no issues saving Money on buying another 1080p model.
I'll just wait for all yous suckered into paying too much for a Premature 4K tv from a Crappy brand.

That's sort of where I stand. When a tv goes out, I will be looking at 4K, but if size and prize and quality are not there, then I will get another large Sharp. I have become a huge fan of the Sharp line, and Sammie just did not cut it when I was looking over 3 years ago. I was shocked because the the Samsung was twice the price for the same exact thing, and it may have been that they had the settings set wrong but there was a huge blur. Never thought I would be a Sharp fan, but I am. I will buy another 1080P tv if I can't find a 4K fitting my requirements. As mentioned, 1080 looks just fine to me. I have no reason or need to upgrade, other than just wanting to for giggles.

Like Chad says Yes and no.

I believe 1080i is only 30fps (720p 60 Fps)
I could be wrong, But I remember hearing the frames are alternating like only every other pixel Line is only active at a single time.
But it happens so fast you don't notice until you get fast moving action ,like sports.
I remember someone acually stating 1080i being equivalent to a 540p 60 FPS .

I think CNET has a Full article on the difference between 1080i and 720p.

The Sharps are Good, as Long as you get a 600 series or Higher.

The 400,500. Do Terrible job with screen shudder on fast moving 1080i content worst I've ever witnessed in my life on a 60 Inch tv.

It just goes to show, Even top name TV brands can make a Crappy TV.

I honestly couldn't tell you the model. Maybe one day, I will find the tv remote and hunt the menus and see if I might find it there. It's mounted on the wall, and being semi crippled, I am going to pass on finding the back. Lol. The days when I walk with no pain, are treasured. They are increasing though, thankfully.

If you paid more then $800 chances are it's a 600 series or Higher .

I know exactly what the differences are. I'm just trying to establish navychop 's first straw-man argument against my post before, before I look at his second straw-man argument he posted against my attack on his first.

Basically navychop says anything I say about 4k is negated because I don't appreciate 720p the way he does.

I will, again, take 1080i content over 720p everyday of the week.

I mean... if you sit so far from your set you can't discern the difference, and frame-rate becomes the justifiable difference maker, okay. But you don't gotta ruin it for the rest of us.

1080i is better no doubt with landscapes ,and often like news reports and many other still type programming.

But it can become a complete mess during any fast side to side moments or up and down movements.

So IMO they are virtually on par with each other.

1080i can "become a complete mess", but you're presumably watching stuff on satellite, which compresses the heck out of the original signal and are satisfied with that?

What are you asking me? Are you trying to tell me 4K isn't going to be compressed?

In fact I would place money that 4K from a provider will be compressed worse then standard HD making the Difference between the 4K and 1080 far less different then it would be .

Of course 4K is going to be compressed. It seems strange to me that someone complains 1080i can be a complete mess, which in my mind means virtually unwatchable, but you're willing to put up with the compression on satellite channels (which doesn't even make it to 1080).

Your statement about 720p being hardly better than SD ...was..BS! Navy was right to call you out. That was the first entry into HDTV. And still here. Stop putting technical specs over the reality of human optics.
