What is "WA" and "8PSK" ?
Western Arc and 8PSK (type of modulation).
What is "WA" and "8PSK" ?
So lets see the positives in the new equipment charges.
First: NO PRICE INCREASE ON PROGRAMMING PACKS THIS YEAR!!!!
Second: ONE DVR FEE PER ACCOUNT instead of per receiver !!!
Third: Standardizing the price between SD and HD receiver fees : Sd and HD both 7.00 instead of 5.00 for sd and 7.00 for hd. (Okay the sd equipment is being hiked to the same price as the hd equipment , so this isn't really a positive.)
Fourth: All miscellaneous fees rolled into one equipment fee.
Let me elaborate on that last one. Presently you are being charged the dvr fee and the lease/additional receiver fee in one charge. So for the HD dvrs you are paying 12.00 (.98 discount for the dvr fee) OR 7.00 lease/additional receiver + 5.00 dvr fee.
IF you had the SD dvr it was 10.00( .98 discount for the dvr fee) OR 5.00 lease/additional receiver fee + 5.00. You are also paying the 5.00 A/0 fee if you don't keep your recievers , after the first one , plugged into a phone line.
After February 1st they will roll that A/0 fee into the new standardized equipment charge. SO they will be :
14.00 - Duo tuner receiver
17.00 - Duo tuner DVR receiver
You can still escape the dvr fees and the A/0 fee if you keep you phone lines plugged into a phone line. The dvr fees should be credited back to you in the credits section of your bill just like the A/0 fee is done today. For example they will say on the A/0 fee : YOU SAVED $ 5.00! for keeping your phone line plugged in. I am sure the dvr credit will say something similar: YOU SAVED $5.00 or $5.98! like the DISH csr is saying in the #1 post. We aren't sure yet on this one because this isn't official. Especially since it looks like Scott received information in his last post that it will be 6.00 for the dvr fee instead of 5.98 .
But the main thing to remember is your programming isn't going up next year! THey have eliminated the extra DVR fees after the first!!! They are standardizing all equipment charges for both sd and hd receivers. This is probably in order to start replacing all mepg 2 equipment so they can go all mpeg 4 on western arc setups. So lets not FREAK out until we see for ourselves in a couple of weeks what DISH releases officially. Until then lets remember this is all RUMOR and not OFFICIAL.
I am using a 211 with EHD. I do not have a DVR fee, paid the one time EHD activation fee of 39.99 and that is all.

Great response to help make sense of this, but it still looks like AEP clients will see a big increase on their bills depending on how many receivers and types they have. I have AEP, and (2) 722 & (2) 612 on my account, so it looks for me that I will be paying $28 more per month. This isn't going to make me very happy!
E should move to DVR receivers that use ALL EXTERNAL hard drives.
Yes AEP customers are going to see the biggest rate increase if they have a lot of DVR's. Unfortunately I am one of those...
I wont be a AEP customer for much longer though, which is ok with me as when I go to AT250 at least I can finally enjoy the free movie channel previews.
One question, Mike. What about the "with DVR" programming packages...ie $57.99 for Silver as opposed to the base $52.99. Will that go away now?
I guess I'm dense, but I still don't get this. Won't AEP customers see a $6.00/mo increase (the per-account DVR fee) across the board, regardless of the number of receivers? That is, as long as they keep them hooked up to a telephone or ethernet line? If that's the case, then a customer with a lot of receivers would actually see less of an increase, percentage-wise, than one with only one or two receivers. What am I missing here?
Brad
Come February 1 st there will only be ONE dvr fee of 5.98 PER ACCOUNT . Meaning you can have as many dvrs extra and no dvr fees after the 1st. Why is everyone still missing this major FACT?
