Dish messing with Voom, All are now HD-Lite 1280x1080i: Discuss this issue HERE!

Jan 9th, I think

I think it would be near absurd that we see Voom or ESPN 2 in mpeg4, I do not think that will happen, mpeg4 and the recent release of the 411 to me = one thing:

Mpeg4 LIL HD to compete with Directv

-Gary

I am leaning towards what you are saying Gary, I think dish folks are loving reading some of the things people are saying! I think Voom and ESPN2hd will be in mpeg2, HD Lil will be mpeg4! I think.....Scott anytime you want to help us out here :) actually my thoughts are something will come out this week, we are getting close to go time! exciting times!

Patience, E* subs, patience. Don't let D* trolls get you all up in a dander.

Remember it isn't just a matter of E* flipping a switch to go back to the way it was, which was only 4 1920x1080 channels with 6 1280x1080 channels. What we want them to do is to take us to 15 1920x1080 channels. And VOOM is going to have to reshuffle their content schedules to accomodate this change. All of this is not trivial and it would be best if E* does not rush things.

Hopefully we are only talking about alloting them another 2-3 weeks to get things in order. That's not very long to make a significant change, like converting 21 1280x1080 channels into 15 1920x1080 channels.

I really doubt it takes that long to set-up an uplink, but if everything shows up by CES in 1920x1080i with good bitrates and is receivable with existing receivers everybody benefits.

BTW, does any anybody know if Dish uplinked the NBA TV HD game tonite? DirecTV is finally carrying them again, hopefully the same holds for Dish.

Are you sure it was not an HDNET Alternate feed of the Mavericks for Dallas? Or did D* have both games?

No. The NBA TV game was the Rockets @ Lakers. It was on channel 96. Also, the logos made it pretty obvious what feed I was watching :)

Well, E* had the Mavs tonight. I guess we will have to wait until Jan. 2 to see if they have the situation settled there.

But we aren't talking about a simple uplink change. E* may very well be working with VOOM on the entire format/content change. Remember VOOM is having to reorganize 21 channels into 15 channels on short notice, something they never planned on doing. At this moment in time there aren't 15 1920x1080 VOOM channels to broadcast.

It may be a case of both E* and VOOM not wasting time re-implementing a 2 week solution when they need to spend time readying a long-term solution for roll-out in late Dec or early Jan.

Now if nothing happens by the 2nd week in Jan, then we may need to make some noise. Until then, I'm willing to give E* the benefit of the doubt that they are working on good things.

Tom your just too positive thinking :) I want things fixed before the 21st (day I get my 61.5 dish up. Since I cant get any Locals in HD I need network feeds of anything in HD to enjoy my sony GW RPLCD. Oh well.

That is part of Dish's problem: Trying to keep millions of subscribers happy, yet each one has a personal reason why it needs to be a certain way or by a certain date.
It is the Christmas season, so I am inclined to cut Dish a little slack now, and hope for the best for the new year.

I searched for the white text but iddnt see any so I am ASSuMEing that you are being serious. If I was truely being a I cant wait and it needs to be fixed now asshat I would of canceled my dish installation for the 21st and told dish to stick it where the sun doesnt shine till they can get thier crap straightened out. Did I do that no. I actually am willing to let dish try to get this all straightened out if it does turn out to be for the better. Its just to me I guess im spoiled from living in Phoenix and getting all my locals and then some in HD OTA no compression nothing just a nice raw digital feed that looked great. So if the HD lite was something that was going tobe more permanant then I too would drop dish like a bad habit. And to wrap this up if anyone on this board ever takes me serious then you should look again in 99.9% of my posts I am light hearted and carefree.

Hope Dish network doesn't pull a caper on us Jan.9th at the Charlie Chat. Hell, you never know what that man will say next. He'll probably start talking about how MPEG4 doesn't give them the gains they were looking for and are going with 8psk turbo till a later date. Then the next charlie chat they will say that they are going with MPEG4!!!!!!!! Who knows whats going on? Answer: NOBODY. We are all going to have to be patient and give Dish network the benefit of the doubt that they are working on things and as I hope they will give us the 15 voom channels and ESPN2 HD all in FULL HD resolution at the first of Jan. I know its hard to just sit back and wait with the little info that Charlie has given us but we really don't have many other options and trust me nobody is ready for more HD than me. The biggest and best move that Dish network needs to do is start letting people know whats going on. In the mean time while dish sits around and don't let nobody know anything, people are flocking to Directv. If the 622/322VIP aren't going to be until April or May of 06' then thats what Charlie needs to say instead of not letting anybody know. I would much rather know that it will be a while before I can get the newest thing then sit around and not know period. I wish he would just tell us something so that i can make a decision about getting the 942 or waiting for the 622VIP or 942+ (if it exists?). Come on Charlie let your customers know what the hell is going on.
