Dish LIVE Retailer Chat Recap - December 20, 2006

How many DVR's do you have? If you have a few your price may go UP by switching to a lower priced package.

I have two but honestly I should take one out. I never use the 508 since I got the 622. But yea, that is exactly what would happen right now were I to scale back to Silver and keep my current movie pack.

DVR advantage pack

What makes sense to me about the pricing and the inclusion of the DVR fees is if you look at the slide it is 49.99 (AT 200 + locals) which also says you save 3.98.

So if you do the math AT 200 by itself it is 42.99 + 5 (locals) + DVR (5.98) = 53.97. So if you subract 49.99 from it you save 3.98.

So in conclusion the new DVR advantage pack has to include the DVR fees and locals.

Any other thoughts welcome.

I may cut our HD channels and just have the HD locals since we don't watch much if any of the national HD channels.

Can you get the HD locals without a HD package? (Assuming, of course, you have an HD capable receiver)

Like you, I find very little on the national HD channels that would make it worth the extra $20/mo.

After watching the chat today I just can't believe what I hear out of Jim's mouth sometime. They want to make things easier in the naming and pricing and that is why they dropped the metal packages. However if they truely want to make things easier they would charge the DVR Fee per account not per receiver. I mean that would only make things easier for the customer.

DISH are you listening.

The other slogan is "Year of the DVR". Like I said if they want to make it the "Year of the DVR" make the fees per account. I can't say it enough. Thanks for the recap Scott. It made watching the rerun after work alot quicker.

They changed the name of AT60 to AT100 because they added the "CD" channels which are available for nothing at all through FTA and give that a reason to call it AT100? lol. Stupid marketing.

Yes, you can. You need the HD receiver (211, 622), dish aimed at 129 or 61.5, and subscribe to your Locals. They will charge $6.00 for the HD enabling fee for not having the HD package.

That's what I do, I just cancelled my HD package a while back and I get my HD locals, StarzHD and HBOHD since I have HBO and Starz.

Not really, considering Directv advertises Total choice as having over 130 channels. At100 is simply less money and At200 looks alot better when compairing it to directv total choice.

Let's be fair to Charlie. He and the "insiders" only own 55% of Echostar. The other 45% is owned by "institutions." I am glad prices are going up since they only made $715,069,000 profit in the last 3 months and $2,817,052,000 since last year!!! That's only $9.39 for every person in the USA @ 300,000,000 more or less. Exxon Mobil makes about $1,000 per person profit.

Note: Quotes in thousands

You know what pisses me off?

They ask (beg) us to help them save their asses with this DNS fiasco, and then they turn around and ram us up the ass......

It's just total BS!!!!!!!!

You do have to take into account the first 6 years of huge losses as billions were spent putting up satellites.

For a 622 and 211 w/ AEP+Locals+HD+Fees+Taxes, I peg the increase at closer to 11% for me. That's annoying... I watch many of the channels I'd lose if dropping to AT200. Not to mention the premiums I'd lose or have to pay through the nose for. And forget about AT250

Are locals staying at $5.99?

I'm so looking forward to hearing about the nickel & dime action on external HDD archiving

More info on the DVR Pak please...?

Damn, so since we lease our 211, we have no choice but to keep the HD package?

If I could get the Science channel in the AT200, I would. This sucks!!!!

I was thinking of upgrading to the 622 DVR to replace our 211, but since we have a 625, and with this price increase, no thanks.

I will tell you now the PQ of FIOS is NICE!!!! My mom and stepdad have FIOS and even on their 110" screen (front projector) the HD channels look stunning, as does the SD channels.

If you've been paying a monthly DVR fee for your 508, you might want to get on the horn and tell them to take the DVR fee off for the 508! DISH does not impose a DVR fee for the 501 and 508 DVR's so deactivating your 508 will just get rid of your additional receiver fee. But yeah, no use paying for a receiver if you ain't gonna use it. They don't charge a fee for activating or deactivating a receiver. At least not yet!
