Don't know where that came from. As has been clearly posted, the contract allows for price increases. Your rates WILL go up in Feb, contract or no contract, unless you have "Family" or "AT60."

Stupid question: How is Dish going to inform their customers about the price increases? All of this is too complicated for me. I guess I'll just assume the position and take it like a man.
OK, I can't make any sense of the Premium Package Pricing slide...it's too hard to read. It LOOKS like any 2 premiums are $22. But previously, they were $22.99. 3 packages have only gone from $30.99 to $31. Perhaps they are splitting the difference from the old $20 Value pack that is no more?
I have HD Platnum. Previously, I considered dropping Cinemax and Starz, but with the $5.99 DVR fee, I would have only saved $6.02.
As I read the new pricing, I would now save $9.01. I know it's only $2.99, but that might be the tipping point for me. Saving "almost $10" sounds worthwhile; saving "around $5" does not. It would also mean my bill would only go up 99 cents.
For that matter, I might finally look at dropping the upper basic tier as well. DVRs and HD have really changed the way I watch TV...I used to want the maximum possible channels to choose from. But now I mainly watch DVR programs, and they mainly come from the HD Networks and top tier basic channels.

Probably the same way other utilities do. How does your electric company tell you? Water, gas?
"A lot of people" ?? Maybe here, but people who have access to FIOS seem to be under the impression that it's available in a lot of places.... It's simply not. I'll bet 90% of the country does NOT have access to it.
Can anyone name (10) metropolitan areas that have FIOS ??
It will be availble STATEWIDE in NJ after the first of the year.. roughly 1/2the state is wired for fios.. the other 1/2 will take a year or 2 more right now they have 100,000 tv customers..they expect to pick up atleast 75,000 more 1st quarter next year

Here in my part of Fairfax County VA, I probably won't have Fios available until 2008- and maybe not then.
And is every hick town, every remote farm in NJ really getting Fios that soon? How many million people live in NJ?

Yeah, I don't see how DBS competes with FIOS at all. I'm very happy with DISH and Wildblue, but if I lived someplace that offered a service like FIOS, ,I'd switch in a heartbeat. But we're lucky to have electricity and analog phone lines.
In fact, I originally went to DirecTV around '96 because the town I was living in only had about 50-60 channels on cable. But now, the digital cable in that area has way more than DirecTV, and it only lags DISH in HD channels.

They got a state wide franchise..once they wire for fios they can turn the tv service on..NJ is small landwise..but is PACKED with a population of approx 9 million people..thats why they are concentrating efforts there (and maryland and other densly populated area such as northern Virginia).. Right now they are avoiding sparsly populate areas such as upstate NY, New Hampshire etc)..They want to put fios where the customers are..not necessarily where the phone lines are they claim to have FIOS availble to 10% of their customer base.. But depending on the state , they may have to get individual cable franchises (slowing them down)

At least in Indiana the utilities are regulated. What that means is that after the CEOs, CFOs, COOs, and CBWs (Chief Bottle Washers) decide they need a raise, or a better Golden Parachute for doing nothing, they tell their friends in the legislature and they say OK, but don't forget the elections are coming up. Half the people in Indiana don't pay their bills, or steal the utilities anyway so let the ones that do pay foot the bill.
Good thing HBO isn't going up too because I'd have canceled it for certain. I think it's already not worth my money right now at 14.99. Hopefully with the rest of the packages they will add channels and add Zone to HBO to justify the increase.
Before anyone jumps to Fios, you might want to check out their DVR. You may chose to wait until they get a good one.
OK, let them increase AEP+HD for $10. 
BUT let them finally do something with OTA EPG.
Let them provide the EPG without subscribing to those locals.
I don't need locals, I have them OTA from Milwaukee and Chicago. THEY force me to subscribe to the locals (read EPG) for $6.
If they will do this, the actual increase will be $4 and I can live with it.

I remember last year and everyone yelling Bring on ALA CARTE PRICING! I guess this year, when we will be paying anywhere between $3.00-$10.00, won't bring back these cries again. God at this rate we will have a $150.00 bill just to sub to AEP and hd pack, in another 2 years. I used to think that $100.00 a month was my line in the sand and now I will be paying close to $130.00 a month with taxes included just to watch and dvr sat tv. Who would of thunk it?
I say bring back ala carte and eliminate the damn extra fees:
$5.98 dvr fee- PER RECEIVER.
$5.00 phone line fee/no phone connection- PER 2/tuner dvr receiver
$6.00 hd enabeling fee- PER HD RECEIVER
$5.00 locals - or no ota guide information
** God only knows what the FEE will be for internet access in February.
