DISH Hopper coming at CES ?

They are currently testing a number of USB tuners with Hopper, and are trying to decide if they are going to put a list of tuners that work with Hopper or have an exclusive Hopper USB OTA tuner which is better customized for the Hopper experience.

Interesting that they are looking at 3rd Party . . . .
What if they allowed one that did Both Clear QAM and OTA. One could scan for channels for both and it would show up in the guide. Since I have a cable modem , I get free Clear QAM cable channels.

I would love to be able to buy a tuner that could do BOTH

Anything is possible. :) As I said they are evaluating things now.

So evaluating means ... hate to say it ... "soon" ...

With the 722 that I have ... I will have more recording potential with the Hopper considering with one tuner it can record the 4 locals. With the 722 I would have to juggle the tuners accordingly on busy nights.

I just hope with the Hopper one can watch "PrimeTime Anytime" while recording is still in progress like you can now.

The hopper will be out before it has official ota tuner support.
expected as much since it's only just in testing right now and they don't even know which product they plan on using.

It's amazing how long the whole Xip/Hopper thing has taken already. I think Scott's original Xip info was back in may of last year. I had completely forgotten about the product in recent months. Wonder if it will go a full year from announcement to release?

It's only been six months since we first saw it. :)

I understand the hardware is done and ready and the software is near ready. It would not surprise me to see it before March.

Sent from my iPad using The SatelliteGuys app!

Does anyone know how the (DVR) hopper will get the HD signal to the other (rooms) Joey in the house? Is it over wifi, coax, or something else? I currently have the 722K and would love to have HD on my second tv.
Thanks

But it probably won't be available to existing subs until well after the OTA support is available...

Seems like a WARNING SIGN to me.

I was ready to switch back to Dish from Direct today.

But after readying hundreds of posts over the years here at Sat Guys, I know all to well that if its not out at the time you sign up, you may not see for a year or worse yet never. Dishes track record on release dates is not that good.
Its best to wait till the OTA tuner is out before signing up since it is a requirement for me.

Hopefully they use a 3rd party USB OTA that is already in on line stores to speed up the release time.

An Over the Air USB were all they need to do is add drivers for it and update there software to work with it. Making there own branded in house I could see taking a year.
One good sign is you say they are already testing, that means they at least have the Drivers working.

Ah ah ah. I learned my lesson with the 922 being released before they promised the sling receiver, web browser, Google tv integration, blockbuster on demand.....I think you get my point.

My original receivers had ota tuners built in. I did not upgrade till they came out with another receiver with ota built in. I will never upgrade unless ota recording is supported.

Can you let the people at Dish know our feelings about ota support?

A USB tuner that did Clear QAM (as well as ATSC for you OTA types) would be ideal for me, since I have Comcast bottom-tier basic cable (it makes my Net access and landline phones cheaper). I could finally record PBS and CW in HD, which Dish doesn't have in the San Francisco DMA, but are available via Comcast Clear QAM. I can only get one OTA signal here in the boonies anyway, so ATSC is not interesting to me.

San Francisco doesn't have the CW in HD but you have PBS in HD. I just looked at the subscription list. There are 3 PBS HD's in San Francisco area.
