DISH HD Migration off of 61.5

Here are my dishes. Small 61.5 I guess. Big 110, 119, 129????? What will happen to my service with this setup.

Birds big fan of the wing dish. Or not.

OK thanks. Yeah the wing dish is an eyesore in the middle of the yard but the eyes feel better watching local HD. All I need is one good hurricane to take down a few trees and my LOS will open up and I can just use 1 dish for everything. This site rocks. Type in a question/problem and have an answer in minutes.

OK. My installers connected a big dish saying(TURBO HD) 110, 119, 129 and after connection I realized I wasn't getting my locals in HD so they came back the next day and added a smaller dish (wing I guess you call it) so I could get locals in HD. I assume the smaller dish is 61.5? So with this setup, what will happen to my service?

Sorry for the beginner talk, just starting to learn how DISH works.

You got setup with the wrong dish... The Jackson, MS DMA is an eastern arc city...you should have had a 1000.4 installed.

My HD locals are on 61.5. Yet, they say to move me to 129. No way that I am giving up my HD locals. I have not received a letter yet and their is no way I am paying a penny to move my dish. I may just swing my 110/119 dish over to 72 sat.

Your locals are on 61.5 and 129...

I can tell you one thing about the Mobile, AL TP on that beam... it's strong! Stronger than the TP the N.O. locals and even the TP's on the adjacent beam that I'm full bore on.

They said they couldn't use the dish I was supposed to get because of line of sight issue so I got this one plus the small wing dish for my HD locals. Is that not right? Will Dish come fix it for me the right way?

Apparently you had line of sight to 61/72/77 so they put you 110/119/129 and found a spot for 61.5. No issues there. You won't miss a thing.

This somewhat sucks for me. The two places I have E (my boat and my winter getaway in SW PA) only have Dish 300 (the boat is a tracking dish, but that's basically what it is). Granted, I can re-align each to receive 72.7, but not at the same time. Thus, I'm going to have to pick and choose between watching HD premiums and my old HD Absolute package. And when I want to switch between them, I'm going to have to hard reset my 211 receivers each time. I guess I'll drop the premiums until the switch is complete.

Most if not all of the AT250 channels plus all the HD channels will be available on the one 72.7 satellite. So that should not really be an issue for you.

I think its cool that what use to take them 3 satellites in bandwidth can now all be delivered over 1 satellite due to the power of MPEG4 compression.

Scott,

I agree that one sat is better than 3 (that's what made the previous use of Rainbow One so attractive, but we won't go there :-). It's just that in my case, during the transition I'm going to have an issue with HD Absolute being on 61.5 while my premium subscrition will be on 72.7. Granted, this will eventually get flushed out, but while that's the case, it'll be a real PITA on my boat. The dish will track any bird I tell it to, but the 211 receiver doesn't like changing satellites without a hard reset (unless I'm wrong?). For my winter get-away place, I can probably put up an old 500 to receive 61.5 and 72.7. Hopefully they'll get everything moved by next spring.

Quite a few areas are dual arc cities. Nothing wrong with giving the installers two options for line of sight. Better than having an idle spotbeam go to waste.

So, which is better EA or WA. I have all VIP equipment. Clear view in all directions. Ivan took out most the trees in my neighborhood.

With all new satellites up on the WA and new ones on station and more to follow soon on the EA, I'm not sure it makes a difference any longer, especially for subs with all VIP receivers. Most won't have a choice because of where their locals are placed.

They have their pro's and con's. I find stronger signals with the WA, some say the EA channels being all MPEG4 look better. Of course the EA will have a higher look angle in your area.. I would just get whichever they recommend for your area and don't worry about it.

So, if all the HD Channels are leaving 61.5 and going to 72, what will all the Conus bandwidth from E15 be used for?

And if our locals are not on 61.5, what would be lose by dropping 61.5? (curious because I'd like to go 72/77/110/119 in order to get SD & HD distances).

I currently have 110/119/61.5.

I can not get 129 or 77 beacuse of LOS. Dish will not give me EA because I can not see 77.

This means that when the transition is complete I will not have any HD. I currently do not get the latest HD channels that were added - this does not bother me. However, if I lose all HD I will not be a happy camper.

I am very satisfied with E*, however, if I lose all of my HD channels I will have to consider D* or cable.

I have 110/119/61.5 and had no problem getting an addidional dish and DP44 switch for 72.7 since I have no LOS to 77.

Try doind a check switch test (menu, 6, 1, 1), that should do it, otherwise it sounds like your receiver has issues.
