Dish 921 as just a recorder?

I have a 921 and am thinking of switching to Direct TV. HD. is there any way to use the Direct TV. HD receiver and hookup the 921 just as a recorder? I know that I will not get HD. quality on the play back.

No, the 921 can only record what is coming in on its satellite inputs (and those will only work for Dish Network's satellites) and what is coming in on its OTA antenna input (which will only record digital OTA broadcasts, nothing analog).

It’s sorta useless anyway...mine is....My understanding is that it will still function as an HD OTA tuner with some limited DVR capabilities.

True, it can still tune in analog & digital OTA, and can record digital OTA but with some pretty big limitations--primarily due to the fact that it has no concept of time when not connected to Dish Network's satellites (and that may be the case even if connected but deactivated).
