Dish 721 error smart card not authorized...

I have official confirmation that Engineering is doing testing at the moment to try and find a fix for the problem.

The testing is currently ongoing, but the speculation is that it is somehow due to HD channels added to 61.5 and 129.

So, if your setup happens to be workable if you disconnect your 721 from 61.5 and 129, then you can temporarily escape the effects by doing so.

They won't replace it. The 721 was one of the models that Dish can no longer activate, due to the Tivo injunction. That includes replacements. They'll send you out a 522 or a 625 as a replacement if you have a bad 721.

Does that mean I then have to pay a DVR fee if they can't replace my 721?

<laughing hysterically>
He used the words "refund" and "Dish" in the same sentence... :D

And then after their announcement that the PPV movies will now delete themselves after 24 hours - how far will they go?
<rubbing my eyes in disbelief>
Did I read that correctly? After Dish announced WHAT????

Double ditto.

No 61.5.

We're getting that error message on BOTH of our 721's. Has anyone called Dish?

One thing that I have figured out. Is if it happens when you are not watching with PIP active, you can rewind then go forward on the tuner that has turned blank to get the picture back, then open the PIP stopping when you have them the same size side-by-side. This has brought back the audio for me.

I can then just close the PIP and continue watching what I was.

I hope this helps others. I am not giving up my 721 to have to pay a DVR fee for the same thing I have now, less the inconvenience they introduce to try to make me get rid of it.

Hmm.... I've been thinking about trying the ATT U-Verse.... (sp?). Perhaps this will hasten that day.

Replacing your 721 won't help as there is nothing wrong with the 721s.

I can say this does work. I disconnected my 61.5 feed because of the remapping the receiver was doing with some of my locals. And since I took away the 61.5 feed to my 721 it has fixed BOTH the remapping and the smart card errors :).

No there is nothing wrong with our 721! Is just that Dish wants to kill the 721 to give us another DVR reciever that pay's monthly 5.99! More Money for Dish!!!!!!!!!!!:p:confused:

And - if it's a second receiver, they're going to charge you an extra dollar OVER what they are charging you for the 721 for the second outlet fee.

It's a problem if you use 61.5 on another receiver in the house, though.

Well it all depends how your setup is. I still need the 61.5 feed for my 622, but I have 2 dp34 switches so I can disconnect the 61.5 feed from the second switch that only feeds my 721 :).

kstuart, please pass along that those of us with nothing pointed at 61.5 or 129 are experiencing the problem too. I'm still on a Dish 500 here.

I have experienced zero problems with recorded programs. I experience it only when watching live. Channel up, channel down fixes it instantly. I so rarely use PIP, that never would apply to me.

I have a 622,and I got the No Auth. message and all my locals both HD and SD went off.Tried rebooting twice but it did not work.

I hope this is not another example of Dish wanting to make money off of THEIR MISTAKES!!! And Dish Network will never give anybody a refund for their 721. I paid $550 for mine and I do not see them issuing a refund for that. They will take our money though and it will be another $6 for DVR service and aint their an HD Enabling fee as well? How does that work? If you do not want to purchase an HD package from Dish Network and you have a 622/722 then will you still be charged an HD Enabling fee? Do you have an option of not receiving OTA HD?

I suppose the fees would be as such:

$6/mo DVR fee

$7/mo second outlet fee (if it's an additional receiver)

$7/mo HD enabling fee

$20/mo to use this receiver? And this doesn't include any programming!

Good grief!

I can confirm this.
I do not have 61.5 or 129. I do have 148 though.
I have seen this problem 3 or 4 times now.
No problems with recorded programming

FWIW

Where can I purchase a DPP33 Switch.

VIP 211 audio over TOSLINK to Bose
