Folks, for those with D* switches... are they installed outdoors or indoors? Does it matter how far the switch is from the dishes or should the minimum cable lenght be the goal?

in the old days they used to ship with plastic caps for the unused ports.Water will get in any unused ports that are aimed upwards.
They are designed to be mounted as close to the dish as possible and it would make no sense to mount them indoors. You would have to run 4 coax lines all the way to the house.
I thought it was like 10 years ago the last time I saw them.(2004)
The old magnum or skyview receivers were famous for blowing the power supply if you plugged a tv into the loop out by mistake,I used to use those caps as a condom on the loop out to prevent that.
I use this type of plastic cover. It seems to protect the switch well. Thanks for the tips, I thought those were weather proof. I'll do my best to shield it. As for wiring lenght, is there a rule of thumb, or any reasonable lenght goes?
Looks good.. but what is it?I use this type of plastic cover. It seems to protect the switch well.
