I have cablevision in ct right now. I really like them and think the quality of the HDTV is fantastic. The problem is directv is having a crazy deal for new service. I actually setup an install after hearing the deal. I just worry that I won't be happy with the pq of the HD on dtv. Can anyone comment on dtv vs cable for HDTV quality? Also how is the dvr?? I love the app for the iPhone, Thats gonna be nice!!

I don't know about cablevision but around here we had Comcast before the switch to DirecTV, I think its way better as far as HD there are a LOT more HD channels and the PQ is way better than Comcast was

One thing to remember is that the quality of cable TV is very subjective based on provider and location.

I can't honestly say whether TWC in my area has better PQ than DirecTV since I dropped TWC a long time ago.

I just switched from DirecTV to CableVision...

Keep in mind I am a "home theatre - video snob" :-) (in our main media room we have a 73" Mits which shows many defects in a video source)

OK -- the PQ with directv was and is better no way around it!

BUT -- me and the wife do love using TiVo. And the PQ of the locals is same as directv. National channels do have more micro blocking effects with motion.

But number 2 -- I am saving almost $50 a month which is a good thing, I have all of the channels in HD I could want (TMC, E!, G4, Travel Channel, plus a few others that DirecTV doesn't have yet)

I would like it if CableVision could increase the bitrates a bit (no pun intended) which would get rid of most of the microblocking issues. This might occur once they reclaim some analog channels to digital -- which I'm not sure CableVision will or is planning.

I would like DirecTV to offer better hardware, less rainfade, and offer a better package price (IE less money LOL) and start turning on more national hd channels.

I have an install date with Dish - but I have pushed it out as I want to see how much I like Cablevision.

As of now (about 1 week in) we will stick with CableVision -- the PQ is good and is great on locals; can use TiVo DVR's which supports MRV (a big plus for us). Line up is also great. Not to mention no contracts - yup my price will go up after the 12 month promo but at that time I can ask for the reduced rate again and if they say no. I assume DirecTV or Dish will have all of the national HD channels lit up.

Sorry for the long post - I hope it helps :-)
