YoutubeTV 2025 price increase

I blame the program providers that keep raising thier retransmission prices. They're losing money from the cable/sat services, and trying to make it up on the streaming side.

How does this end? I think there will come a point when people say "enough is enough," although I don't think we're there yet. Even some of the RSN's will live to die another day, although I was seriously hoping they would fail this year.

Just got an email notice from YoutubeTV. Price is increasing from $72.99 to $82.99 with first billing in January.

YouTube TV has always worked hard to offer you the content you love, delivered the way you want, with features that make it easy to enjoy the best of live TV.

To keep up with the rising cost of content and the investments we make in the quality of our service, we’re updating our monthly price from $72.99/month to $82.99/month starting January 13, 2025.

We don’t make these decisions lightly, and we realize this has an impact on our members. We are committed to bringing you features that are changing the way we watch live TV, like unlimited DVR storage and multiview*, and supporting YouTube TV’s breadth of content and vast on-demand library of movies and shows.

The price of your YouTube TV Base Plan membership will change in your first billing cycle on or after January 13, 2025, and will be charged to your payment method on file going forward. To view your current plan, go to Settings > Membership for updated information. If you are currently on a trial or promotional price for the Base Plan, that promotion is still honored and unchanged.

We hope YouTube TV continues to be your service of choice, but we understand that some of our members may want to cancel their subscriptions. As always, family managers have the ability to pause or cancel anytime. You can find more information in our Help Center.

With lots of exciting shows and live events ahead in the new year, we’ll continue to strive to deliver the best of TV, all in one place. Thank you for being a loyal YouTube TV member.

Sincerely,
The YouTube TV team

It's cable without the cable. Keep packing in more and more channels then try to justify another price increase "To keep up with the rising cost of content and the investments we make in the quality of our service". Where have I heard that before? It's the same old same old only now you pay for the equipment and Internet access in addition to their service. Meanwhile I pay $139 per year for Prime for the free shipping and essentially get Prime TV for free plus another 72 channels off the antenna. There is nothing about YTTV that tempts me.

Is there still a way to get locals only via satellite through Dish?
Nope.

I believe Dish’s Welcome Package is the only way close to locals only, which is $61.99 a month, but then box/dvr fees on top of that, with 3 boxes (including DVR), that brings it to $85.99 a month, $3 more then YTTV, with which you receive a lot more channels and 3 streams on at the same time ( equivalent to DVR/3 Boxes)

The equipment is very inexpensive compared to satellite, and I pay nothing extra for Internet since I need it anyway for other purposes. Actually, even the cost of our Firesticks isn't a factor since we originally bought them to use for Netflix and the Dish Anywhere service. We still have Netflix, but not Dish.

Not many care.

There is 131 Million Households in the United States, yet only Charter( 13 Million Subscribers), Comcast (13M ), DirecTV (10M), Fubo (1.5M), what is left of Fios(2M)and Cox still has the RSNs.

That is, roughly only 40 Million Subscribers, then how many of those have packages that do not have the RSN, like Entertainment with DirecTV.

So that drops it down to, roughly, 35 Million.

So, 96 Million do not receive the RSNs and growing.

In 2017, about 100 Million received the RSNs.
So, SCREW those that Do want the RSN's ???

That was one of the factors we considered in choosing YTTV. No RSN's meant we weren't paying for more programming we don't watch.
I have probably 30 channels on YTTV that I don't watch ... still have to pay for them.

I'd rather have the option than not.

Trouble with Streaming, is things you want to watch are now scattered all over the Apps, so I need a different App for each show I want to still watch.
IF you can figure out where the shows you want are at and you have a sub to it.

They should make the RSN's an extra cost option on YTTV if there is enough interest.. We do have a number of apps installed, but the Firestick's voice control means we rarely have figure out where a given program is. We just ask for it. The "Live" feature also gives us a listing of what's on most apps that makes "channel surfing" pretty easy. Our primary viewing though, is on YTTV and Netflix, so not much jumping around.

I am currently trying out YTTV for a bit, so using that and Netflix most, but still have Paramount plus and Peacock and Amazon Prime.

Problem with the Voice control, if I ask for a show, it may bring up various different Apps that the show is on ... AP is notorious for this, its available on Prime it says, but then you find its Not part of your Prime Sub ... we'll then its NOT on Prime .... it may be somewhere else where I'd have to sub to yet another App to see it.

Lets make a Feature that tells you where shows are for Apps you actually Sub to ...

We have Paramount+ through Walmart+ and my wife likes it because they show her favorite soap uninterrupted when the network showing was interrupted for a news event. Off hand, I don't recall the Firestick voice control bringing up an app we don't have installed. It does sometimes include listings for Prime that are extra cost though. I just ignore those...

How much do those cost vs. the sports channels? The cost of sports is just the biggest problem of course. The proliferation of channels with tiny audiences (if any, statistically speaking) that incrementally increase the cost is also a problem, but eliminating the sports is the most obvious way to cut the cost.

I'm at that point. Literally, the only thing we watch our OTA DVR for is local news, which is available via a streaming app if we were willing to give up recording/trickplay functionality. We don't even watch the national news anymore. The constant political coverage during the election cycle just became too much, so we stopped watching. We don't miss it. Whenever the local channels get around to charging for access via ATSC 3.0, we'll probably stop watching that too unless the app is still free.
