Has anyone gotten them to ship the receiver directly to them, with no interference what so ever from an installer?

Not that I know of. I tried and they wouldn't do it. However, the first CSR I had talked to, who would only give it to me for $299, said she could have it shipped. The second CSR, that gave me the deal, said the system wouldn't allow her to just ship it to me. Interesting, I thought.

I got the deal as well, but I had to consolidate my grandfathered ticket only package. Oh well, they informed the ala carte option is completely gone next year.

I called the retention people yesterday not thinking I would get a the free HR10-250. I was wrong. Got it on the first try. They said I am on the A-list having been a subscriber since 1995. In fact, the very nice rep I talked to (Rachel) said I was the longest-term member she had talked to. I have also had Sunday Ticket since then. Anyway, due to some other issues like I'm having a new roof put on and reception of my locals is iffy due to trees, they won't be installing until early August. But that is free, too, even if they have to move the dish. Just had to pay $19.95 handling plus I bought an HD OTA antenna since my HD locals aren't available anytime soon. I was shocked at how easy it all was. Thanks to everyone on here for the tip.

I had the HR10-250 installed last Friday. When i asked about upgrading to the new HR20-250 the CSR told me the cost will be comparable to the HR10-250 when it first came out ( i think it was around $1000.00 ) he didn't even mention anything about a "discount " for existing HR!) subscribers. Keeping my fingers crossed though:confused:

My rep told me that she thought it might be offered for a $99 upgrade fee.

Just called and got the HD-DVR for 19.99 on my first try.

He didn't require any ST signup (but I will get it anyway). I am going out of town until mid-August, but scheduled install for then.

He also said that the new HD-DVR will be out at the end of this month or beginning of next month at the latest.

Very pleased. :) :) :hungry: :) :)

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but they will not budge. I have the sunday ticket and the best they will do is knock 100 off the price so $299. Plus another 50 if i want a HD antenna. Can someone please give me more advice. Oh and they always say they have seen I've called before. I have called a total of 7 times now. Thanks again in advance.

Are you calling the retention number ? it took me a few calls - the first they wouldn't budge $499.00. the second call they went to $349.00 finally the last call the CSR noted my last offer and asked what i wanted, i told him just the best deal without having to call everyday - he gave it to me for free just pay S/H. i also had to pay $49.00 for a OTA antenna and commit for 2 years, but i don't plan on leaving so no big deal. i guess it just depends on the CSR. i even had trouble with the OTA antenna they supplied ( not receiving FOX & ABC ) because the OTA antenna they supplied is a UHF only ( FOX / ABC are VHF ) and the credited me $49.00 and are sending out the installer to install a UHF/VHF - Keep trying...

what is the number for customer retention? should i threaten to leave if I dont get it. I know not to mention this or any other group and that it was posted here. But can I mention that people I know are getting this deal? Thanks in advance.

customer retention. 1-800-824-9081
yes you can mention other people. A friend of mine did just that. You will need their phone number though. you don't have to threaten to quit ( i didn't ) just mention dish and cable but you really directv and would like to stay, but the other deals are tempting. good luck -

Its like they marked my account ... they wont do anything else for me. I guess I'm SOL.

Thanks for everyones help.

Got The Deal!

I am SO happy that I found this site. I bought an HDTV about 6 months ago from Best Buy and got $150 in coupons that were about to expire. Since I have been wanting to record in HD, I put the coupons toward the HR10-250 which as everyone knows has a list price of $399. I figured I got a good deal -- until I found this site.

This morning, based on all of the posters reporting that they got the HD DVR for free, I called retention. I got the free DVR with the $99 Super Fan package thrown in without much trouble....

I am a returning ST subscriber -- and also have the MLB Extra Innings and NBA package, as well as the Sports Package.

I told the rep that I was getting disallusioned with DT. I explained that I was told when I got my HDTV that DT would have the best programming available. Since January, I said, not one extra channel has been added. I told them that I love baseball and basketall (as my subscriptions show), and that Comcast was able to broadcast all my local teams in Hi Def -- while the promise from DT was not being fulfilled. For goodness sake, I said, we are at mid-season and NOTHING! I also told them that I was disillusioned with the increasing cost of the Sunday ticket and the cost of their HD DVR which I told them I priced over the weekend. I told them that I was about to switch to cable, and asked what could they do to keep me?

Voila -- The DEAL!

Thanks to all who posted. I hope I have helped someone else seeking the free HD DVR.

By the way, when I asked about what would happen when the new box became available - "in about a month" -- according to the retention specialist, the said that they would swap out my box. I will deal with that issue when it arrives.

Fox Sports Regional Networks In HD

I spoke to a CSR today who was reading off a statement in response to my question about the Fox Regional Sports Networks becoming available in Hi Def (as it presently is here locally through Comcast).

He indicated that as of July 1, 13 Regional Networks would offer GAMES in Hi Def. He confirmed that Fox Sports Bay Area here in the SF Bay Area would be providing the games in HI DEF on either channel 96 or 97.

I have yet to confirm that this programming is available.

I have a few questions:

I see my account has already been charged the first month installment of ST (I must have it set for auto renewal -- much to my surprise). Can I still take advantage of the free HD Tivo offer, or will I now be shot down.

Also, what is the going rate for ST for returning subs this year;

I assume that even with the free HD DVR, you will be charged the extra 6.00 per month DVR service. Is this correct

As I mentioned above, I got it for just the S&H with no ST req.

However, I was going through my mail and received a piece from D* that said "enhance your television experience with a complimentary D* receiver"

It goes on to say that if you get ST I could get a basic receiver, the R20 or the HR10-250 as a comp. It says the offer is non-transferable, but it also gives the promotion code NFL4U2 to enter on their website. May be worth a try for those having trouble.

Also worth mentioning that when I called they kept saying "Ah, I see you are an anniversary customer." I am not certain what that means other than I have had the service in my apt for about a year now. I just said yes and acted like it was something of significance. Good luck.

Tried the code out of curiousity (I did get the deal already, but was curious) and received an error say the code was invalid, FWIW.

I live in the philly dma and have my locals via the new Mpeg 4, but you think they would hook me up with one to record the other HD content and get my locals OTA???

DTV gave me the deal, then took it back -- beware!

Thanks to the good folks on this forum, I called last Friday, and got the "deal". I have been a sub for about 20 months, have the $45/mo package, HD pack, and sports pack (no movie channels or NFL ST). It took two calls, but the rep gave the HD DVR for $20 shipping, and an MPEG-4 HD rcvr for $99 + $20 shipping, but with $120 in monthly credits, all for a 2 year commitment. It took a good half hour to 45 minutes to get all the details finalized. I was very happy :) . With holidays, etc., install was scheduled for Tuesday, July 11th.

Last night, I go online, and check my account. It says that the install for the HD DVR has been canceled (the install for the MPEG 4 is still there). I start to get a queasy feeling in my stomach :( .

I call the number given, and tell them that I did not cancel the install, and want to know what happened. I am told that I called them back on July 4th and canceled the install  . Um, not true, I respond. I have not spoken with DTV since the 30th when we scheduled the install. Oh. It looks like a supervisor reviewed the order and determined that I was not eligible for a free HD DVR, so he called me twice on the 4th and told me that, and then he canceled the order. NO, I have not spoken with anybody from DTV since the 30th, nobody called me, I still want the install. They are very sorry, but I do not qualify, a supervisor determined it, and yes, they did speak with me about it. And on, blah blah blah.

So, I am ticked about a couple of things, first, that I spent 45 minutes on the phone Friday, most of it on hold so the retention person could get approval to give me this deal, and in the end somebody else comes along and just says no. Then, they don't even bother to call me to let me know, but say that they did. And they were going to continue on with the other install without letting me know. My wife would have been the one who was home, and would not have known that they were only installing part of the thing, and we would have been on the hook for 2 years.

This is absolutely unacceptable customer relations.

Partly, I just wanted to vent. I am pretty ticked  but also, wanted to warn you. If you have an HD DVR install scheduled, and you got "the deal" without really qualifying as a returning NFL ST sub, you may want to double check and see if it has been canceled behind your back like mine was.

I am not even sure what I am going to do at this point. The entire thing has been well documented in my account notes -- there is no way to call and see if I can get the deal from scratch. I could call retention and demand satisfaction after the way I have been treated and threaten to leave for DISH (which I am strongly considering doing at this point). Or I could just sulk for a while.

Good luck to you all.

When I first replied, the reply got stuck in the wrong place, not at the end of the thread.
