Yep, and remember too they are publicly held companies in the business to make profits AND profit a service. It can be a fine tightrope balancing act as many people today LOVE to jump on the greed bandwagon but this sure isn't a Socialist environment, nor would we want it to be. And greed and gouging are those BS words tossed around way too easy by people that love to talk big but know little. IMHO The bottom line is doing like whay you did, if you don't like a service or a cost, then pack up and move on. No harm, no foul you voted with your wallet.

One thing to note. Yes, Directv pricing is becoming ridiculous. This is why I have no problem with calling them every time one of my discounts roll off asking what they can do to decrease my bill. Even though I can afford it there is no reason that you should not negotiate your costs.

And they will continue to increase pricing until the market will not bear it anymore. This is what their shareholders pretty much demand of them. They don't want to see the company that they invested in just get buy. They want to see those large profits that they have come to expect year after year.

and that is one of their duties. and like I said before; if and when the market begins to NOT BEAR the cost; they must react them and fast. but doing so, is not greed nor a sin; is free market enterprise business; and glad we live some place that embraces it

Hemi, don't take what I said the wrong way. I totally agree personally with what you have said. I also feel the same way for all of the Oil companies out there. The problem is that the companies don't care about the little people as long as their shareholders are happy. Lose the shareholders and you have a different problem then just having a higher cost product that most people are willing to pay for.

So I see even though D* is a little slow with adding HD, They are working (MRV) was added, and a few Interactive features, New Receivers,

E* Has added HD, But I got a feeling, those were already under contract for quite sometime, and Charlie just refused to launch them, untill he has to drop something. Because everytime he adds something he drops something.

In Wisconsin regardless of address you get FSN North. Now which teams are blacked out...thats the difference
I know in Northeastern MN you get the Twins and Brewers, yet cross the border into Wisconsin and its only the Brewers...strange
Minneapolis we get FSN North and FSN Wisco. Games are blacked out on Wisco but if there is a big FSN game and FSN North has something else on, we can see it on FSN WIsco

receiver fees
I have 3 receivers on my D* account and pay $12 in receiver fees
My dad has 4 receivers on his account and pays $28 in receiver fees

If I set up what I have now with E* I would be paying at least $17 in fees.

The DirecTV CEO pay is not 100% correct either: (he is the CEO, Chairman AND President of the company too)


He COULD make more than $35 million during his three-year contract, according to an SEC filing. His base salary is $1.5 million a year with up to 200 percent bonus based on meeting performance goals. Another $25 million is a three-year grant: half in stock options, half as performance restricted stock units, plus the usual exec benefits.


Seems reasonable and standard once you know the REAL story; decent base pay and back-loaded with performance kickers .

after 16.00 in credit I pay no lie, 118.88 a month I have Ultimate Pack, HD, HD Extra, Starz, 2 HD Boxes, 2 SD Boxes, PPlan, etc....

I guess its your preference, for me, I got rid of the sports pack soon, I have a 10.00 credit right now so its actually 2.99 a month, but soon Ill get rid of it, or hopefully keep getting discounts.

But like I said to each there own, I personally like my base channels.

Couldn't find an all-inclusive on Ergen but his base pay did decrease to $623,100. Being a co-founder I am sure a lot of his money is tied up in back-ends, overall profitability and possible sale of his company (if that ever came about)

My bill is 160 bucks. I did have some discount pop off. It was 143.
In my 15 years with direc it has steadily gone up.

I know that I could downgrade but I watch direc in my man cave.
I love the sports and movies. The picture is top notch.

To tell whole story
I have three hr24 dvrs. Whole home Mrv. Plus protection insurance for units.

I also have dish which is my main system. I love dish as well but I cant get my
Jets, Rangers, Yankees and Knicks.

For similar package minus sports packages dish is cheaper by 30 bucks?

No offense intended to Lern, because I have always found you to be one of the more fair posters on the forum. Still...... I do find it funny when people post a thread to complain about the price of something like sat and then say that they ALSO have the competitor hooked up in their home (while carrying the top package no less). I can tell you how to cut your bill by a bunch, easily! lol

This is too funny.. AND can tell what ugly direction the thread is headed. Those that DONT have, think those that DO are inherently greedy and don't deserve any amount more than the "DONTS" think is too high. Move to China.


I think teachers making less than $35k and law officers making less than $50k is a PROBLEM.
