Dish getting pricey

It seems the HR/H 24s have been a game changer for D*. Responsive and quick, and as you note, MRV which has value to some. The problem of course, is that old customers can't get them easily without an out of pocket expense and some new customers aren't getting them either.

If I were to consider going back to D*, it would only be allowed in the house if it was the 24 series. I had all I could take of the previous HRs last go around.

If it were not for Dish Network's equipment technology (DVR) that is better in my opinion than Directv's, I would have switched a while back.

You should check out the new line of receivers from D*. Some have been able to try them at Best Buy. The HR-24 and H24 are very similar in speed and features as the ViP receivers from E*. The key here is to get those models and as jhon69 will quickly point out :) not everyone is getting them. Production of these new receivers has increased according to someone in the Directv forum and they will probably be the default receivers being installed.

Yeah, my bill is $109/month for 2 DVRs and the 250 package and HD. I'm not going to sign a 2 year contract to get the 10 buck HD charge knocked off my bill which they should have given me automatically considering that I've been with Dish for over 11 years. 95% of the channels that I get I have no interest in watching so it really comes down to finding an alternative that covers these few that I do like in a lesser cost plan. Dish for example puts the Science channel in its highest tier where all the other providers put it in a base tier. If I bundle with internet, I can save a considerable amount by going with either AT&T or TWC.

I don't mind staying with DISH, but they really need to consider putting more flexibility in their programming tiers and offer some more options to reduce costs. I went with Dish at the time because they offered a lot more choice at lower cost that I could get with cable at the time, but in the years since, most of that advantage has disappeared.

4 at one time

Have you seen the HR24? Many who have both say it is just as good or even better than the VIPs, and just as fast. With the VIPs still doing some things better, like two rooms, and the HR24 doing other things better, like MRV.

So will it record 4 things at once? If not then that means multiple units w/ a fee added to start with and monthly fee on top of that. I checked yesterday when my commitment w/ E* ends and was told Feb. Maybe by then D* will get rid of all the junk HD DVR's and add EPIX. Then I will think about them again. Oh the ext HDD's still replace the HDD inside the unit instead of add to don't they?

D* has stated in print they have no intention of adding Epix. They say they already have enough movie channels. That and BBCAmerica will always keep me anchored to Dish, programming wise.

Oh D* isn't smart enuff to get EPIX maybe they will get their own churn. I'll go with the 1 that has the best for me in Feb. Also if I went D* I'd then see my buddy goalie again. :D

IF Dish would go ahead and secure the few loose end channels that have been rumored here, then I will definitely stay put. FearNet, Outdoor Channel HD, etc.....Also if the 922's get to working as good as the 722's do, there's nothing a HR24 can do to touch it-from what I've seen. Dying to get one that's bug free.

I guess I'm just lucky to have not had any bad experiences with Dish yet.

Scott, I know you have more insider info, is Dish aware of how many people are upset with the fees? I think they need to re think this strategy as I too have dropped programming to offset the costs. I don't think anyone would argue that equipment and such costs money, but they really are pricing themselves out of higher end customers with more than 2 TVs......

As long as dish makes a profit and keeps gaining new customers they will not change.

The only way dish would change is if they see a big downturn in subscribers and that coresponse to a lower revenue then may lower equipment fees in order to gain business.

I think what Dish really needs to do is get the 922 / sling architecture delivered.

If I could get a 922 as my main unit and the use sling catchers / whatever the new name is for my other TVs, then it would help.

They must allow people to purchase the catchers outright and not force people to lease them.

If the 922 was the main DVR and baked into the price (first unit) and I could buy catchers for the other TVs, I might even stay.

If someone wants to lease one for $5/ mo, then that's up to them. :)

Who gives flyin' F about EPIX????? You guys are ridiculous. You can get those movies anywhere. It is NOT compelling, OR original content. Now BBCA-HD is another story.

A lot of people do. I honestly could care less about BBCA-HD. Who gives a rats ass about the SOAP channel, RFDTV, EWTN, BabyFirst..... The answer is that plenty of people do. Not as many as channels like ESPN or Discovery but people do watch them. If no one watched them they wouldn't be on TV.

You just seem to be posting your own opinion, in which case, why do people care what you think? Everyone has a right to their own favorite channels. I myself think the EPIC channels were a great addition for Dish.

You can get the 922 as your main receiver and it would be included in your programming price. The only difference would be a larger DVR fee.

I think that the catchers will be for sale only. I doubt they will have them as leased equipment. I haven't heard any talk of them being leased.

D* said no more HD premiums... I'd be getting D* if they had more premiums. As someone who likes both movies and non-local sports, I am really on the line. I may dump either my 211 or 711k as it does not work with remotes well. HR24 with MRV is tempting but without HBO Signature and Actionmax HD, kind of a deal breaker. Another DISH audit and I'm gone too. I am also cutting back on AAD distant locals soon.

I predict the extra receiver fees will drop in the future.......

E will regret they tried shafting their high end customerts, plus with the economy about to take a second dump churn will be a issue.

Were about to see a second home price clollapse

True.

I just used the duo TV feature as one example showing how the VIPs are better in some aspects, just as I used the MRV as one example showing how the HRs are better in some aspects. I didn't want to create a list of features that one does that the other does not.

Not no more premiums, just EPIX.
