Digital audio question

I have the following:

RCA DRD435RH DTV receiver
Onkyo HT-R500 receiver (home theatre)

I have an optical audio line going out from the DirecTV receiver to the one of the optical IN's on my HT receiver. I notice that with my DVD player and the same setup, I get the Digital LED on the HT receiver, yet when I am watching DTV, no matter what channel, it's always in Prologic mode, meaning that it isn't getting a true digital signal.

Any thoughts?

well first does that receiver have a dolby digital icon on the cover ? second not all channels broadcast in 5.1 mostly hd and premium channels do 5.1

I had that same setup only the A/V receiver is my Sony. No channels had DD5.1 broadcasting. I have a blue LED that comes on when the A/V receiver is decoding 5.1

There is none on the box so I am guessing that it doesn't do Dolby, which is what the installer said that it did do. I really only wanted it for the movie channels that I get. Guess I'll be calling the people who installed my system and see if they can either upgrade me to a Dolby Digital 5.1 box, or go out and purchase my own.
