Detroit Tigers 2008

I'm starting to get the feeling, with the way things are going, that the sextet of Tampa, Boston, NY, Chicago, Minny, and Detroit will be battling it out for three postseason spots. The Angels, of course, would have the fourth spot.

I hope your right, but I think the White Sox will be falling off here, they can't keep up the pace they had in the first half.

Tigers scored 19 RUNS!!!

Somewhere in Ohio, Jimbo is shedding a tear of joy.

Thats would be the NW corner, on the lake !

Chances are the typical Tigers will go out and probably lose a game scoring only 1 run tonight !!!

Maybe, they will not be the typical Tigers tonight.

Last time they got to 5.5 GB they went out and lost like 5 of 7 and fell back under the .500 mark.
They have a chance to push ahead of the.500 mark and possibly stay there with some good play coming up.
They have 2 more with KC (they always have trouble with them for some reason)
and then 3 with the White Sox and 4 with Cleveland to close out the month.
Minnesota has a great oppertunity to take over the lead in the AL Central .

They (Tigers) could conceivably be inside of 5 by then ... or not :p

I agree with what your saying sox on a bit of a slide, the schedule is there for them to make a move. If they are going to make it its going to be this month, they need a 7 out of 10 streak or something like that to get it started!

Lets see if they make that move , or stumble and continue to be a few games one side or the other of .500.

Verlander has his stuff together, let's hope the other pitchers follow suit.

Are the Tigers starting to roll ?

Tigers came out of the AS break and win 5 of 7 (could have won the other two as well, but didn't.)
They were like 18-4 before the break as well.

Starting pitching and the Closer will tell the tale of this season when it's all said and done.

They are on a roll. They need to go get one more pitcher, Like a Burnett, I do not think we can make a run with Robertson, Rogers, Gallaraga, and Miner backing up Verlander.

The Pen I think they can do the job. This weekend series coming up is Huge, and could either end our run or put us right on the doorstep scaring the hell out of the teams above us..Must get 2 of the 3, but we really need a sweep again.

Ok the stage is set, late July 5 out with three to play against the sox need two of three (though sweep would be nice:)

I really wish I had more time to follow the team this season. Of course, the cable company recently switched my parents (MI) over to all digital, so the Slingbox I left at their home is completely useless they rent another set-top-box.

Re setting the stage:
Back in April when the Tigers could not hit grass ....
White Sox took 5 out 6 from the Tigers badly
Sox took 3 straight in the first series and then swept them 3 straight in the next meeting.
At that point the were 2-10.

Then when they met back in the early part of June the Tigers starting to play better swept the White Sox 3 straight.
Sox have thier pitching going strong, Tigers are getting thiers going.

Tigers are 20-8 since the White Sox series back in June.

I too hope Dombrowski pulls a trade for a #1 or 1a, 2, Starting pitcher.

I think Rogers will be done at the end of the year to, so picking up a 1 or a 2 would have long term effects.
Could Bonderman be traded ? He would probably get them something, he's a very good pitcher when healthy.

Don't look for that, Jimbo. Miner gave a nice performance the other night, and lets not forget what he contributed in '06. He seems to be more comfortable as a starting pitcher, where he can use all 4 pitches in his arsenal, as opposed to when he came in on relief and only used 2 pitches. As long as he doesn't overthrow his fastball, he can be very effective. He has a lot of movement on his fastball.
At any rate, the rumor mill has been very quite concerning the Tigers this past week. I'm not saying Dombrowski won't make a trade, I just don't think it will be a major one.
As for Bonderman, well his trade worth is next to zero. Big contract, major blood clot, etc... there can't be anybody that dumb in MLB. Who is the "Matt Millen" of MLB, anyhow?

I know no one is taking Bonderman and I hope everything goes well and he gets back to his old self.
Have you heard anything about him since he went down, did he have the surgery, will he be back for next season, or is this injury a longer deal than that ?

As for Minor, I would not consider Minor to be a # 2, I hope Dombrowski is still searching for a 1 or 2.
I have heard thet Willis is redesigning his delivery in Lakeland, but I think he's slated for NEXT year.
Remember , you rarely hear about trades from Dombrowski or Holland before they happen.

As for Jones, geez Jimbo, what's a guy got to do? 14 out of 16 save opportunities. Sure, he likes to make it a little exciting sometimes, but he has gotten the job done.

Well you can add to that total tonight,
Tigers come out and retake the lead in the 8th and Jones breezes thru the first 2/3 rds and gives up a hit and a HR to the next two hitters.

Say goodnight Gracy ....

They need to bounce back with Verlander tomorrow night.
I really don't like the "It's just another game" attitude a lot of the team seems to have.
It's not a big series, is another one, to them, it's just another game, true it's just another game and the fans and media make it out to be more than it is, but COME ON .

Guys I hate to say this but after the loss last night, I have to say the race for them to get the division is all but over, they have about sixty games left and this year I dont see them doing it. If they contiue to play competitive baseball and finish over 500 well for the start they had, I guess thats not to bad.

A few contracts are coming off the books this year so that should help in re-tooling. I am just going to sit back and enjoy baseball before football starts and our "lovely" lions get going

I look at today's game as being the big one, IF they win today, there back to 6.5 and still hangin in there, though barely ...
If they go down 8.5 I think it IS to large to make up.

In previous posts I mentioned that if they were in it, they would have to be at 5- 5.5 back at the end of the month, this is still possible, it depends if the Tigers start playing well again when they go on the road.
The definatly need to start playing more consistant, 1st 3 innings yesterday they looked like the were going thru the motions again ... and you could tell right away that JV was not on his game.

As I sat in my 2nd row upper deck seat along first base watching the Tigers barely hang on, all I could think about is did Zumaya just walk off the field for the last time this year, or just for a few weeks, or a few days. Then, my thoughts changed to can Rodney really close, this guy is just as variable as Gary Sheffield's bat. What the hell is happening.
