Five or six months ago when Dish was having their HD deal where you didn't have to pay for anything, I called Directv to cancel. After talking to this person and then that person at Directv they finally said they could give me their $99 retention deal. Well I balked at that time and didn't get HD and decided to stay with Directv. A couple of months ago I was having pic quality issues and I told Directv that after the holidays I was planning to get their HD package if the pic quality issue could be resolved. The pic quality is somewhat resolved and so I want to go HD. I called Directv and wanted to upgrade but now they say they will not honor the customer retention deal offered to me earlier. What gives? I specifically asked at the first time they offered my this deal if I could use it later and they said it would be on my file and that yes I would be able to use the deal. Any ideas on what I should do?

Since it was five or six months ago I'm sure there is a time limit on how long a deal is valid.

If you are no longer under a contract with D* call them and tell them you want HD and Dish or Voom or however is offering you this what can they do for you. If they can not do what you want maybe its time to move on to something else.

I asked that specific question about the time-limit of the offer and the rep told me that there was not a limit. The rep said there would be no problem in getting the deal later because she was noting in the computer about my situation at that time. I am still planning on getting HD before the new year but would rather pay $99 than $250-$300 bones.

Directv rep comes through. I called Directv again today and this time asked to speak to the supervisor in the Customer Retention Center. After explaining the situation they agreed to give me the HD package (including receiver and dish and installation) for $99. What is even better is, they will only charge on my bill the $99 instead of me paying for the entire bill and then having them credit me my monthly bill until the full amount is credited. THANKS DIRECTV!
