currently with cablevision io, should i make the switch....?

currently i have triple play which will be expiring soon. i was offered a deal for phone +internet+ tv from fios, and im seriously considering it, i have a few questions:
1) does verizon give free hd like cablevision io? this is something that is really neat from cablevision
2) is the picture quality of verizon's tv just a clear as cablevisions (HD and SD), if not better?
3) probably the most important question for me: Is there an option in the settings to be able to switch a channel a day in advanced? meaning for example, on io's cablevision box you have "vcr record timer" and it will change channels to that channel whenever it is set to. directv also has this, except directv has unlimited amount of switches available while cablevision only has 8 vcr switches to be able to input beforehand.

#3 may sound silly but for me it is very important...

edit: one more question, are you allowed to have 2 or 3 boxes in 1 house? how much is each box add-on?

What is io?

1. Verizon's Premier package currently includes local and national HD channels

2. Don't know as I have never had Cablevision. It probably depends on each persons set-up and their personal opinon.

3. If I understand your question correctly, Verizon does not have this feature. You would have to have the dvr set top box to change and record channels.

4. To my knowledge, you can have as many set top boxes as you want.

Just to add to the last reply, I am coming from Cablevision and there is no comparison in terms of HD offerings, functionality and picture. FiOS blows them away. First, you are probably used to Cablevision's vintage 1970s graphics and cut-off show information. While FiOS is no Tivo, it is leaps and bounds better than CV.

If #3 is that important you have to make that choice, however, PQ, channels offered, especially HD, and functionality were more important to me. Compare the HD lineup (and regular lineups for that matter) and you will see the difference. As mentioned, FiOS's main package includes HD with the exception of the premium movie channels. And if you buy any of them, the VOD for each is free (unlike CV at $5 per month each).

Verizon in terms of total hd channels may has 5 more HD channels, however they do not have MSG or Fox Sports Net. So if you like to watch the rangers, knicks, islanders games in hd you need Cablevision. Also Cablevision has INHD which verizon does not have. And as far as the ondemands if you look at the price of the hbo and cinemax it is the same price if you add the ondemand from cablevision. At least Cablevision give you the choice if you want the ondemand or not. Alot of people rather save the 5 bucks instead have having them included. What do you mean by 1970's graphics?? And as far as cutting off the info the have the full descriptions when you access the info thru the program guide.

let me rephrase my question: id ont actually want to record anything, i just want it to switch channels. i.e. its currently sunday morning, i want to watch something at 10pm tonight, i want the tv to automatically change channels at 10pm. the reason i need this feature is there is a time period where we cannot touch the tv, so any channel changes must be done before-hand. is there a feature like this?

You can set reminders on the Verizon FIOS SD box. It will switch to that channel at that time. If you want to record from it, you will need to keep the box powered on, as it does not power on/off for the reminders.

I haven't used this feature too much, but this is how I remember it worked.

Hmm, I guess it is possible to set up reminders. I never paid attention to it since that receiver is used with my tivo and I use that interface.

I set up 13 reminders before I decided to stop. I don't know if there is a limit but that is how many I set up.

They don't have MSG or FSN in HD because CV WON'T GIVE THEM THE RIGHTS! CV knows Verizon has them beat across the board everywhere else, so they hold back on giving them the rights to these in HD. Nothing Verizon can do.

As far as costs, how about the full picture.
CV's IO Silver pkg has HBO and Starz/Encore for $68.
FiOS's premier pkg with the movie pkg has Starz/Encore, Showtime and The Movie Channel for $56. Add HBO and it totals $72. $4 more than CV but you also get Showtime, TMC and all of the VOD channels associated with each.
CV's cost for all these would be the $68 + $10 for Showtime & $10 for TMC. $88, without the VOD for any of them. Add that and it's $93 for the equivalent set of channels.
When is CV adding National Geographic, Discovery, ESPN2 or NFL network in HD (or at all in the case of NFL Network)? What about HDNet movies (HDNet vs INHD are a wash)? Add to that the better FiOS PQ and better DVR, and there's no comparison. Unless, as you say, one is a Knick or hockey fan, which is the only area where CV has forced their advantage.

Actually, I strongly prefer HDNet Movies over INHD2. The movies on INHD suck and are repeated all the time. The HDNet movies have a much better variety, and while they still repeat, its not constant like INHD.
