current best deal for new customer?

A friend is about ready to sign up as a new customer. It seems the deal DTV is giving current customers (free Tivos) is better than new customers ($49 for tivo). Dish gives multiple DVRs. Do you know of anyone who has called DirecTV and gotten some free Tivos as a new customer? I guess its worth a try.
