Copy movies to new DVR...

Folks...first time post here...

My DirectTV DVR is shooting craps...Direct TV is send me a new DVR in a couple days...

I have a lot of stuff on the old DVR I would like to move to the new DVR if this is possible....especially my JAG series...

I think my DVR is a model R15...it's about 3+ years old...it has a USB port on the front...

Is it possible to transfer my stuff...if so, how do I do it...???

I don't think there is a way to do a direct transfer yet. You could record them to dvd.

I don't think there is a way to do a direct transfer yet. You could record them to dvd.

Unfortunately raoul's suggestion is the best way to save your recordings, D* has not set up a way to transfer recorded programming from one unit to another as of yet.
Even if you were using an External HD you would face the same situation, because it reformats when it's originally plugs into the new rec.

Copying to DVD is your best bet if your still able to work with it that way, connect your DVR to the D* unit 's output.

Thanx Jimbo...I suspected this might be the deal...

So, I need to get a DVD recorder, plug the output of the DVR into the input of the recorder...which means unplugging it from my TV, doing a recording then plugging back into the TV, at least I assume so...

Use S-video and the audio cables I assume...

So then, how do you control it...???...if I understand the process correctly, I would have no means to view what it is I am recording...unless I go from the recorder out to the TV...

Can anyone point me to a post or a process that will give me good instructions on how to do this...

Do you have an a/v home theater receiver? That's one with video inputs as well as audio. You can plug the output of your dvr to the input on the a/v receiver and then the output from the receiver to a dvd recorder. There should be a video monitor output on the receiver that goes to your television. With this setup, you can watch what you are recording.

Connect the TV to the output on the DVD Recorder and you can see what the recorder see's.

DVR output to dvd recorder input, dvd recorder output to tv input.

Simple process to watch and control the DVR and DVD.
