Confirmation Needed

I am a newbie who just signed up with Direct TV and I wanted to confirm that my DVR will work even though I do not have a home phone line.

I searched and it looks like it will, but I just wanted to confirm it.

I also called DTV and they said it will not record programs. Why would I need a phone to record?

No phone line required to record or use any other DVR functions for that matter. You were misinformed.

I believe the only thing the phone line connection does is call in and report on PPV orders done through the box. If you go online, or call in manually, the phone line is not needed. But now with the HR20 connecting via ethernet, this may (soon) be a moot point.
