How do you go about switching your locals(US) if your living Canada and have DISH?

I presently have New York, but would rather have Miami or Fort Laurdale or some where in Floridia?

simple answer Tom...you cant
longer answer Tom....99% of the locals are on Spotbeams...so you need to be within about 200 miles from the main city (ie: Miami, Tampa, etc)

Unless you pick Chicago or Denver, NY is all you can have. Denver & Chicago are CONUS (whole US)

Thanks Iceberg

well Chicago OI can get the news from WGN and I get the Superstation from denver.

To bad I'd would of loved to get them from Florida something different.

yep...and its only the Big 4 (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX)...the rest of the locals are on spotbeams

I didnt say Buffalo because you probably get those on Rogers right now??

Are you using a broker? Or a friend's address?

If it's a broker, then you'll have to request the broker make the change.
If it's a friend, just have them call in the request.

Why do you have Dish in the first place. Last I checked Bell Expressvu offered 3 u.s. different local feeds (buffalo, detroit and seattle), plus they offer almost all the same channels as in the states; and all their sports programing on cbc , tsn and rogers is available to you in HD, and I doubt Dish will ever give it to us.

Let's see...

USA
SCI-FI
ESPN
Disney channels
Nickolodean channels
Spike (U.S. version, not watered down Canadian version)
TNT
TCM

and last but not least, no simsubs

Why?

thats very simple my learned friend.

US TV(providers) offer TRUE US PROGRAMING and not basterish Canadian version of the same channel.

And BEV only offers two sets

Boston 0east
seatt;e west

your thinking of SC

East
Detroit/Buffalo

West
Seattle/Spokabe.

An the main reason for DISH is

SCI-FI Channel

that and the endless of all those great US channels

US Channels RULE!!

Canadoan Channels DRULE!!

Not a friend and not really a broker. but not priariting either.

Where I bought the Dish from here in Ottawa, the guy basically charges you and Dish charges him, but you only pay a $65 fee every year.

yeah its pretty funny

Tom (Busman) lives in Canada and has US TV
I live in the US and have Canadian TV for about 1/2 the reasons you posted :)

But as Tom noted, most of the channels in Canada are the "bastardized" versions with oodles of Canadian content on them.

I would have to agree with you Iceman about that being funny:).

I would kill to have HNIC, TSN and Rogersportnet in HD though.

However, my wife, being Canadian probably wouldn't think highly of hearing her canadian content called bastardized..lol. But then, she is a Toronto Maple Leafs fan and that speaks for itself:D

That's what we would call a broker.
Ask him to change the service address on your account to the city you want locals from.

Reasons like those that I have both. We switch back and forth between the 2 alot.
The kids usually go between Noggin and Treehouse, while the wife always watches the Leafs channel or HNIC (she's from Northern Ontario, so is a huge Leags fan).

Canada has some good specialty channels that we don't have, but their movie channels suck while we have good ones in HBO, Showtime, etc...

We have to have PIP working on the TV on saturday nights, with sabres game in one window and the leafs in the other.

You to remember I'm a TV Fanatic, just ask Iceberg & Derwin0 or others who know me on this forum..

At one point(before I got Dish)I had SC,BEV & Rogers Cable all at the same time.

Would this be comsider "Ecentruc" maybe, maybe not, its al in one's point of view.

I just love TV and especial viewing it through a US provider.

Now grant you I don't know what the "rules" are in the US regarding programing on varries station and about this so called Sindex rule? not exactly sure what this is and I'm aware of no timeshifting(to bad it would be nice to have if on Dish)

I know more or less DTV & Dish are avaikable most of the US, as for cable I se the commerciALS FOR ok cABLE,tIME wARNAR Cable,AT & T,Verson I'm not sure where all these are available throught out the US if you cann choose more then one in your city or not, but the only way to get true US programing with out being close enough to tthe US board to get them OTA clearly enough, is basicly either DTV or Dish. I'm not sure about C/KU Band or this 4DTV Sat, but at leastr I get it via Dish. And though I have the everything package $100/month as long as I getting SCI-FI I'm happy with that. Yes I like getting the others as well but SCI-FI is a must and is the most important one to me.

it was niceer when the CAD $$ was 62 cents :)

the reason we call it basterdized is the providers claim they have a channel like "Food Network" but its no where like the US version..its all Canadian content with a sprinkling (no pun intended) of the US version of Food

But its nice to have HNIC and up to 4 sets of networks (2 SD 2 HD)

Great 119 signal, no 110

ImaginAsian TV anyone interested... continued?
