Comcast Cable and WINK-TV have announced an agreement to carry CBS' high-definition (HDTV) programming to Channel 182. An agreement with Marco Island Cable is in the works.

Under the agreement, WINK-TV/CBS high-definition programming is now available to Comcast's high-definition cable subscribers in Lee and Collier counties. WINK-TV's analog signal is currently seen on Comcast channel five.

"We're very pleased to bring even more value to our HDTV line-up with CBS' high-quality programming," said Larry Schweber, vice president/general manager of Comcast Cable. "Comcast is dedicated to changing the way people watch television and this agreement demonstrates our fulfillment in providing some of the most often requested high-definition programming from customers in this market."

"WINK-TV values this partnership with Comcast and we look forward to being the provider of high- quality CBS programming for Comcast's HD offerings," said Gary Gardner, vice president/general manager. "This agreement with Comcast will allow Southwest Florida viewers their first opportunity to watch many of their favorite CBS programs and major CBS sporting events in HDTV."

The addition of WINK/CBS high-definition programming complements Comcast's HDTV lineup, which also includes ABC, NBC and PBS broadcast networks, ESPN HD, TNT HD, the cable-exclusive INHD and INHD2, plus premium networks HBO, Cinemax, Showtime & Starz.

To receive Comcast high-definition offerings via cable, an HDTV set and HDTV converter are required. HDTV converters are leased by Comcast for a monthly fee.

A Marco Island Cable representative said they are currently working on an agreement to also offer CBS in HD, and they would be offering the channel soon.
