Can I ask for an AM-21 before install?

I ordered new service last week, and am set up for an install on the 17th (3 weeks out, ouch!)

I am in a DMA that carries locals in SD only. I am getting an HR2x reciever, and will need an AM-21 so that I can also record my locals in SD.

Can I call DirecTV and request them to send me an AM-21 before I have my service activated? I would hate to have to wait another week for them to send me the box after install...

Try this. Create your online account at DirecTV. Once you've done that click on the My Setup hyperlink and here should be a drop down that has Kits and Equipment, you might be able to order the AM21 there.

I've tried that. I've created my account, but I can't order any additional equipment online.

I don't think you can order an AM21 yet because you don't yet know if your going to get a HR21 or HR20. The HR20's have built in OTA tuners. You may not need a AM21. DirecTV can't gaurntee the type of receiver you will get at the time of the order. You may have to wait and see what you get then order if needed.

They ship it overnight though so you'll get it quick if you do need one.

Most likely you won't get an HR20. I would call up Directv and ask them. It won't hurt to call and ask them. Let us know how you make out.
