C31-700 Issue

Hi,

I need some help with an odd problem. I have a client that has C31-700 boxes. They are using the older RF universal remotes with them and DirecTV had us reset the remote (981) when they were having issues. Now the remote doesn’t work at all. It’s almost like the remote reverted to IR mode and the C31-700 is in RF mode and there seems to be no way of pairing the remote again. The box won’t take an IR command. I can’t get into the menu to change anything on the interface and I’m not able to pair the remote back to the box.

DirecTV tech support was not able to fix it and they even turned around and said the remotes were not compatible even though they are working with the same set up in other rooms.

It’s been super frustrating. Any help would be much appreciated.

What model remote are you working with ?

I have never used a C31 client. But if it is capable of using the RF on an old style (4 color button) remote, you should be able to reset the C31 to IR by completely resetting it. That would involve pressing and holding the reset (red) button for about 20 seconds. If the there is no reset button, try pressing and holding the power button. Once it resets, you should be able to navigate the screens with your now IR remote, and program it to RF.

Newer clients use the RC71 or RC73 remotes which do not have the same kind of RF link.
