Black LNB's?

While looking around at LNB's recently I noticed a bunch of black ones. Now this is possibly old fashioned thinking but is black the best color for an LNB that's going to be cooking in the sun all day? Wouldn't a light color be more prudent? If you were going outside to work in the sun would you rather wear a tan hat or a black one? I know I learned long ago to never buy a convertible with a black interior.

While light colors don't heat up as fast as black, black sheds heat faster than light colors. Car radiators were painted black for this reason.

In the context of something out in the sun, black is a generally awful idea (unless the object is a solar heating system). The heat is dissipated through the metalwork.

Black does indeed take and give up heat (through convection) better than other colors, but that difference in transmissiveness won't make up for the solar absorption that it calls down.

In the end, it probably comes down to aesthetics and black is assumed to be less obtrusive than white. A small argument could be made for black being more likely to thaw frost.

Black tie wraps last longer when exposed to strong sunshine (I hear that from Spain).
White and other coloured plasics have additives, it seems, which make them more sensitive to sunshine.

Maybe something like that also applies to LNBs?

UV resistance can be achieved two ways:

1. Use colors that absorb the UV light and convert it to some other form (usually heat)
2. Using materials that aren't impacted by UV light

Black tie wraps win because they absorb the UV, not because they're made of a different material.
