As the interested parties prepare for the upcoming Multichannel Video Distribution and Data Service auction at the Federal Communications Commission, details about the participants are beginning to surface.
As expected, MDS, which said it has technology that can operate in the same spectrum band established for MVDDS, is a participant, along with Winstar, Moontime Wireless, DTV Norwich, Cass Cable TV, and Council Tree Wireless. Northpoint Technology, the entity usually associated with MVDDS, didn't apply to participate in the auction, a move that was expected from the company.
Among the notable MVDDS applicants that did not have applications accepted for filing at the FCC were Capitol Broadcasting, Satellite Receivers Ltd. and WCS Communications. South.Com, an applicant that has EchoStar as a minority owner, also didn't have its MVDDS auction application accepted for filing. But South.com has re-submitted a corrected application to the FCC for review.
Satellite TV interests have been closely watching the MVDDS debate at the FCC. They are worried the spectrum-sharing wireless technology will interfere with their signals.
