Apple Homepod vs Sonos One

For me Sonos is better, I can listen to SiriusXM on it, TuneIn Radoo, Slacker, Calm Radio and apple Muisc on it plus play all my music from the computers in my house.

I can do the same on the HomePod though not directly. Anything I can play on my iPhone or iPad, I can airplay to the HomePod and on the Sonos for that matter. And I actually prefer to do it that way as I have so many smart toys listening that often I can’t get a particular device to play. I have an Echo Spot by my chair which always responds since it is closest and most often when I use Alexa it plays.

I got a Riva Concert smart speaker today and my initial thought is that the audio is practically the same as the HomePod and better than the Sonos. But it doesn’t have a direct play of most service except via casting or airplay. I’ll be testing more if my new puppy will give me a chance. It is a very active Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix and such a cutie!

I thought about that with the HomePod but guess I just couldn't see spending that amount of money on a device that was crippled by not being open to other services and forcing you to use an external device to make that happen.

And for the Echo have you thought about having the different ones in the room respond to another phrase? You can change the "wake" word to Amazon, Echo or Computer, so assign a different one to each on in the room.

Yeah, if you have things you want to control that aren’t HomeKit ready, that’s an issue. Home bridge is a kludge to help with that, but it isn’t at all user friendly to setup.

I had forgot about changing the wake word. In the case of the RIVA Concert that isn’t supported. I’ll fiddle with that tomorrow, thanks for the suggestion.
